Hi guys, I have a couple of questions regarding my Max II. What oil filter do you use in the 14 horse vanguard? I bought one from Wallyworld that fits 12 through 25 HP engines (p/n 5049) but its alot smaller or actually shorter than what is currently on it. I also bought standard 30w lawn mower oil. I suppose that sufficient until fall. I had both Jack Shafts changed this past winter. On the left side it is able to slide back and forth a good 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. Is this right or should it be shimmed so that it wont slide? The right side wont slide at all. What do you guys think??? Thanks in advance! BC |

Bill, The Briggs & Stratton oil filter is # 491056. The jack shaft should be shimmed with washers so it is snug. Make sure the sprockets are lined up. Straight 30 weight oil is the best to run as long as you can ( during hot weather, it keeps the engine running cooler than multi-viscosity oil). |

Thanks Fred. Its not shimmed correctly. I sure wish there was some mx support in the MT, ID, WA area. Even a days drive would be fine to have it fixed correctly. This winter I had both jackshafts changed and all of the bearings (well almost all) and the chains by a local lawnmower mechanic. Real nice guy but he said it was a little much for him. Thanks, BC |
