I was wondering if there is a reason there is no chain tensioners on my Argo 6x6 of unknown age. It has a Kohler twin 2stroke. It seems as though that would make things alot smoother.I cannot find a serial number or model number anywhere.

tensioner attachment point
Do you have a hole in the inner frame rail and a tube on the outer frame rail? This ia a pic of an attachment point on the middle axle.

I have an ATTEX/300 and want to add some tensioners. Could you post a picture of one installed please? Thanks

Argo spring loaded tensioner

There are different styles, this is off a 96 Argo. Pretty simple design and easy to fab up a new one. There are also tensioners that are not spring loaded available. Two arms with friction pads on the top and bottom of the chain. The pads squeeze the chain together and tension is by a spring attached to each arm.

I cant squeeze the chain because of the frame interference. I bought a couple rubber packed idler style tensioners. But I am thinking of using a spring loaded like surpentine belt one off a car. After I get my sprokets to stay put, manufatuering some tensioners is my next step. I just hope I dont have to redo all the chains. There should be some pics of it up in the readers rides section sometime soon. I hope.
