I just got a 4 stroke outboard for the Max. I am thinking of mounting it on the bow, and running it in reverse so I can control it. Just how stupid is this idea? Perhaps I should just mount it off the rear, but how will I get to it? Control it? |

Mount it on the back and turn your body sideways and reach back with your arm and hand and use the tiller, if it doesn't have a tiller and remote control mount the throttle and steering controls up front. |

Running the motor in reverse with it mounted in front probably wouldn't be very efficient. I can envision a whole lot of prop wash, propeller damage, and exhaust in the face. Why not just run the motor forward and the Max backwards? Perhaps the seat back could be rigged to be easily removable and you could sit and face foward much like you would in a john boat. I'm about to rig mine so that I can easily remove the entire seats for maintenance purposes and more leg room when I'm alone. |

Besides all the things Fredryck mentioned. The outboard would have to be modified so it does have the tilt feature anymore. The engine would not have any give if an underwater object was struck so there could be damage to the unit, the mount, the max. When trying to give it the gas with the engine mounted backwards and running in reverse the prop should pull the engine up out of the water at anything above idle. Is there a problem with being able to reach the outboard when mounted on the back? |

I think both ideas will work. I will remove the cover and see if I can reach the motor controls over the Max motor cover. The idea of running it stearn as bow is pretty cool. Out of the box for sure. Why not? I can run it in reverse if I need to steer. I need to think it over. My other idea is to use a 7000 gph 4 stroke pump as a jet drive. I am thinking of putting the pump in the rear seat and using a simple tiller/ hose combo to control it. Ideas? The river is just 5 mph |
