At the risk of asking a dumb question, how do I use the "Champion's Choice Cable Life" fitting that came with my Max II? Do I disconnect the cables from the top end? Do I have to disconnect both ends to remove the cable? Thanks for any advice you can offer. |

Bill, From the engine side you should be able to slip the luber over the threaded metal end of the casing (doesn't take very much to hold it). Cover with a cloth just in case when you spray it doesn't get all over.
If there aren't enough threads exposed to grip, use a 5/16 wrench and loosen the clamp that holds the casing to the engine (remember where it goes so your throttle will work completely when you hook it up again). Works best if you can have the front of the machine lower than the back so where you put the stuff in is higher than where the stuff comes out on the steering stick. |

Speaking of cables, any ideas on how to keep my choke cable from freezing up on my Max II? I have the Max heater on the throttle cable, but the choke cable freezes and I can only get the engine started by removing the air filter cover and spraying ether (starting fluid) into the carburetor. |

Dan, if its frozen now, you will have to wait for warmer weather or a heated room, but you need to blow it out with air and let it drain with gravity and then lub it. You might have to take it out and let it hang in a warm room for a day or two to get all the moisture out.
In the mean time, before you shut it off, pull the choke out about 1/2 way - then it will freeze in a partially choked position and should start OK. The choke cable thaws out pretty quick with the engine running so should be thawed by the time your engine is warm enough to run OK without the choke.
Starting fluid is OK once in a while, but is pretty hard on engines. |

Max IV- Frozen choke cable. Left it, next day was warm .Lit stove in garage,got choke working. Tried to use lots of compressed air to blow cable out from both ends, used "cable oiler tool" to spray in Fluid Film, choke was sliding in and out like greased lightning. That was Friday night. Left Max loaded in trailer with choke ALL THE WAY OUT ,cause Sat. was the big ice fishing day. Saturday at the lake, the machine started but was hard to keep running with the choke full on. SMOKE! IT took 20 min. for the cable to thaw enough to get the choke completely off. Never pulled choke out again all day. Today at home I found out that if the choke is frozen in the off or in position it is easy to start the engine by pulling the whole cable backwards where its bolted to the carb. Now I find Fred's above post- Tommorrow out comes the whole choke assembly and up it hangs. Question, Is there a special procedure for removing and re-instaling the choke cable assembly? W. Our navigator says we travelled 80 K.M.(50 miles) in the max with three guys all over 200 pounds and pulling a trailer with a fold up hut and JIFFY motorized ice auger ,gas,food, minnows poles etc. Drilled 21 holes in various lakes -NO FISH- Later |

Phillip, If you pull the choke cable assembly out of the machine, fasten a piece of wire (at least as long as the cable, probably longer - I have an old choke cable that I use) to the end and pull the wire out through where the cable goes so that you can get the cable back where it was. I don't think you can push a cable - you need to pull it into place with the wire that followed the cable out. Hope this makes sense.
Also, if you have a warmish shop, it can be drained while in the machine. Lift the front of the machine up three or so feet and pull the slack of the cable out of the dash leaving just the end sticking out of the body in the engine compartment while putting the whole cable on an incline. Blow air from the top down and gravity feed a water absorbing lubricant down the cable. When lubricant comes out of the low end, keep dripping lubricant as you pull the cable back into place. |
