I don't know about the rest of you, but I go through chains fast. At the beginning of the year I put in all new chains on my Max IV. I purchased the chains from the Max Factor-y(hee hee). I have only put 21 hours on the machine since then and already they are streched past its ability to take up the slack. I am running 26inch tires and the terrian here in New Mexico is very rough, but hey, I don't want to be buying new chains with every oil-change. Is this normal or is there somthing I can do? Can I take out a link or is that a really bad idea? I know it is not the best thing to do but I don't have the financial wherwithall to support the national chain industry......Please advice! |

Do you oil the chains? Getting dirt in there? Go to motorcycle and try a lube meant for chains. Something is wrong its not normal wear! |

YOU MUST LEVE SOME SLACK IN CHAIN. IF YOU DONT IT WILL WAIR OUT 20 TIMES SOONER! CHECK WITH R.I. OR RICHERD CLARK ON HOW TO ADJUST, IF YOU NEED TOO THAN GO AHED AND REMOUVE A LINK, IT WILL NOT HURT ANYTHING,2ND OR THIRD TIME THOUGH MIGHT BE RISKY! IFYOU SAW MY CHAINES YOU WOULD THINK THAY WHER REALY WAY TOO LOOSE, BUT I HAVE NO TROUBLE WITH CHAIN, I HAVE 38HP AND MY MAX DOSE WELL OVER 40 MPH,IM USUALY PIKED TO PULL THE DEAD MACHINES HOME FROM THE TRAIL,IN 5 YEARS WITH THIS MAX I HAVE ONLY BOUGHT ONE PAIR OF CHAINES,TRNS-JAKSHAFT LINK AND THAT WAS JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE,DON'T WHANT ONE OF THEM TO BRAKE DURING A WEELEY DO WE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I would spend the long dollar and use O-ring chain. It is stronger, and will require less adjusting and lubrication. |

Worn sprockets will wearout a new chain very quickly. Richard wrote an article about chains and I think it is still here on this site somewhere, maybe in the tips section. |
