can i remove the governor spring and not harm the engine? I put tracks on my vangaurd and lost alot of power and was wondering if that would be the way to get some more power, i am worried about what will happen when i get into deep snow. any advice would be great Ty Dave |

The governor only controls the engine RPM it does nothing for power. The only thing you will see is a little more speed.Dont disconnect it altogether have someone set it to 4000-4500RPM .I run mine at 4450 and have seen no harmful effects in 3 years. Eddie |

if you do try the govener bypass remember to keep some good springs on the arm that comes out of the block, we dont want to let the little items become free inside the block or they will destroy the engine. this arm holds them in place so springs must controle the arm. all that is left is to find the point on bellcrank that lets you get full throtle at the throtle handle on laterel and at same time full opening at carb throtle plate, after the math you drill small hole in the bellcrank and use a direct rod linkage from bellcrank to the carb throtle plate, coat hanger has bin used, also some people have good luck re-useing oridianal rod with some modifications to it,(bends i guess) alwase remember withoute instaling a rev kit this will alow more rpms but unless you have your engine under a load while at higher revs it might be damaged, so a bypass might help, but must be under load if reved, personaly id never own a brigs without the rev kit installed in it. dave you might not get any more power with the bypass if you have the tracks on, power if we think about it must be to low to move you with the traks on at the normal speed, otherwise if there was enoph to start with tracks wouldent slow you down, and then a bypas could get you more. the rev kit from 600raceing.com is not all they have to offer. they have some other tricks for sale too. a rev kit would make the cheezy brigs more relyable so they can safely run up too 6000 rpm!they have carbs and cams and special heads and more, so more power can be had. |

By golly, miracles never cease to happen! Eddie and I agree on something. Setting your top RPM up higher is the safest way to get more out of an engine (rather than try to bypass the governor). If you do set your top RPM up though, it is important to never rev up your engine without a load and remember that you will void your engine warranty. |
