Got another one for yah! I just got my Max, it's used with 120hrs. When I first start it it sounds like the engine is knocking, sort of goes away after it's warmed up a bit but it's still there and goes away if you increase RPM's. I used the hose off my shop-vac as a stethoscope and it seems to be coming from the clutch. I assume sence it's a centricugal cluth it's the weights making this noise at low RPM until the weighs are more fully enguaged. Anyone else here this noise in their Max? |

I do not understand your question, it is simple you need a clutch replacement. Call richard at route6x6 812-944-1643 he sells clutchs for good prices. Bob Braswell |

You do not need a new clutch as long as it is still working. My suggestion is just don't worry about it. My engine sometimes makes a noise similar to what Lazerman is talking about. When I put my hand on the air box the noise goes away, which suggests something is rattling. The noise comes and goes. Now that I have it modified I do not hear this noise any more. It also hasn't backfired since the rebuild. MaxRules |

Sorry if I didn't make things clear. Think I'll just keep driving it. It runs great! Thanks to both of you for the advice! Any ideas on what to do about the weather here in Maryland? Rain Rain Rain and then it's supposed to snow! |

Laz, I'm in Maryland too and the weather bites hard! :) Listen there are springs in your clutch that hold the weights tight until you have enough spin so they engage. When the springs get old instead of gracefully engaging they slamm into the clutch wall creating quite a clank. Also, the torque converter can also make some ungodly noises if the retention spring breaks or is weak. The t20 also if the bands are worn can bang around also. Please check all of these things don't ignore noises if they are loud enough to disturb you then you should look into them. You can't push a 6 wheeler and I'd hate to see you stuck somewhere in the middle of nowhere with nothing to eat or drink. Take head guys if it don't feel right then fix it don't ignore it! |

Thanks Pete! The more I listen to it the more I suspect it's just coming from the clutch. I've owned other things with a centrifugal clutch and they have made similar noises at idle. I must say I went out in the snow this morning and had a great time! I live near Mt. Airy and we got 7 inches here last night, I measured it on the deck this morning. I did get stuck once. I ran or tried to run over a small pole, about 8" in diameter and I got hung up between the back to wheels. Had to get out my brand new 50'X 5/8" rope and my come-a -long to get loose. Fortunately there was a Pine tree near by. Still had a great time! Everybody in my neighborhood thinks my Max is the coolest thing. I've already given most of them rides in it. I've got one of them thinking about buying one. Hope he does. I think you said one time before you live in Laurel, is that right? How much snow did you get? One more thing, was it you who suggested to someone on the site to try riding at Greenridge State Park in Western Maryland? Any way I sent off for the sticker application and received them yesterday. I got two extra ones. If you know anyone interested in taking a trip out there let me know and I'll send them the sticker application. The cost is only $15.00 for a year. Brad |

Laz, Yes I would tend to agree. I think you said your Max is brand new? I wonder maybe you got a faulty clutch or something is loose inside the clutch? You can take them off and get them apart if anyone of this internal components are loose it will make one heck of a noise when the clutch is in operation. Need to get ya a winch :) Gosh a come-long in knee deep mud would be fun hehehe:). Yea same in my neighboorhood I have my Attex in storage and before I started my frame off the guy that owns the storage facility was in shock and asked me what was that machine he likes it and says he wants one now :) Yea I live over in laurel we got about three inches and boy was it coming down Saturday night. I like that calm feeling when it's snowing and all the idiots retreat into there houses and the only person walking is me and Newton(li'l pup). Yes it was me that suggested greenridge nice place to ride I've been riding there for years on my klr. I'll join you out there when I finish my Attex. btw know anybody thats getting rid of a trailer I'm looking right now for a decent one but all the used trailers I come across are wrecks. Let me know. |

Brad, Also I'm currently talking to a fellow with information about orv trails up by frostburg. This place makes greenridge look small! I've seen pictures old abandoned tunnels, caves, and even sone folklore about a b-29 that crashed i nthe woods with nukes on board! We have to go up there I'll post info when I get it! The only thing is it is definetly in the woods and they get 14" or so at any given time daily i nthe winter so I think we would have to be prepared on that trip. |

Brad, Yea Mt Airy brings back memories for me. I rode there when I was a kid almost every weekend. I used to ride down this dirt trail next to a farm and into a labrynth of woods trails. Not sure if they are still there but it was fun. |

Hey Pete and Dave if you happen to see this. I would be interested in getting together with a couple of guys here in Maryland to go riding. I have a list of about 10 people who have purched Max's in Maryland in the last two years. I've called one of them, he live in Onley Md. He knows two other guys who live in Mt.Airy who have 6X6's. I plan on calling all of them to see who's interested in getting together for a ride. I'll let you know what I find out. And Pete it would be great if you could come along even if your Attex isn't running sense you are so familar with Green Ridge. Let me know what you think. Brad |

Brad, Sounds good to me. I can ride on my klr which I don't need need a permit to ride in greenridge since it has plates :). Yea I would be very interested in doign that sometime soon. Let me know when and where you guys want to meet I'll have to take a cold ride down 70 brrr I can feel that already :). Hehehe. Do you think we can start a local 6x6 club in maryland? |

Pete What is a KLR? I assume it's a motorcycle. What would be the advantage of starting a club? I'm not opposed to the idea just wondering what the advantages would be as opposed to just giving everyone a call to get together for rides? Are you willing to be our President? Would we collect dues? Would we have meetings? Just thought I'd throw some questions out there. I am open to the idea. Brad Ps Maybe we ought to move this discussion to a different subject heading so anyone else interested might see it and reply if they’re interested. What do you think? |

Brad, The klr is my street and trail motorcycle :) Well I suppose the biggest advantage is knowing who and or what was going on in maryland as far as 6x6's are concerned would be an advantage. Yes if you wanted me to be your president we could do that I wasn't volunteering but would be willing to do so if nominated. Dues tough question probabaly not at first then maybe later just to pay for events and things id suppose. Mettings yes I would think we could maybe prior or before rides. Yea I'l lsee about starting another discussion elsewhere about this. |

Pete I'll make some calls to the folks I have on my list and see if anyone is interested. I got this list from a dealer here in Maryland, it's people he's sold machines to. Maybe we could contact other dealers and get a list from them as well. I wonder if RI and Argo would give us a list of dealers if we told them what we were doing? Brad |

Laz, Yea sounds good to me. Not sure where I'll start the new post. I'll have to take a look at the topics list and see what's appropriate. I'm tired from fighting with the attex yesterday but I'm happy to say I'm down to the bare tub and scraped it down yesterday and will be taking it to the car wash today to get cleaned the with high pressure washer. Then I'll be fixing the few hols in the bottom. I think the reason the bottome of the Attex is so messy is both drain plugs were out so everytime the previous owner would drive through nastyness it came inside. I think I scraped and clawed about 5 lbs worth of dirt grease and grime out of the bottom. I'll be getting some plastic goo and acetone soon t o plug the holes i nthe bottom and then will be painting the bottom with truck bed liner paint. Then I think we will be in business. I'm happy to say I'm in restoration mode not take apart mode :) |

Pete I called all the folks on my list last night. Only got a hold of two people. One guy wasn't interested, he was 86 years old! He keeps his Max on a farm he has in West Virginia. The other guy is very interested, he lives in Hamstead Md. I left several messages and have to call the others back tonight because I talked with the guy from Hamstead for an hour, by then it was 10:00pm. I'll let you know how it goes tonight. Brad |

Brad, Sounds good bud. I can also setup a website for the club also. Let me know how things go. I mean I would like to see races come back and have a Maryland 6x6 presence so we can compete against other clubs and states. We just have to think of a name for the club. |

Good to hear from you Henry. We're looking at going to Greenridge State Park sometime in the future. You can call them 301-777-2139 that number will get you Rockey Gap State park because the Greenridge park office is closed this time of year. Ask for Donna Atchley she's real nice and very helpful. Normialy you have to go to their offic to get your stickers but she will send you an application and maps. Fill out the application and enclose a check for $15.00 and she will fill in the sticker numbers on the application and send you your stickers. She doesn't have to do that! Told you she's a nice lady. Let me know if you have any questions. Brad ps I think I'll post this on the site so everyone can have this information. We've been talking about going to Tower City as well. Never been there but it's up in Pa somewhere. I was told it's about 3hrs form here in Mt. Airy. |
