Hi everyone, just wanted to run something by you all, and get your opinion. My 94 Max2, has suddenly taken ill. I started it up today, and heard occasional arcing sounds comeing from somewhere, I turned the lights off in the garage, to see if I could see any arcing, but saw nothing, it does not do it all the time, but it sure sounds like arcing, also the motor which is a 16 hp B/S, idle good for a while thensounds like it almost is going to stall, then catches itself and speeds up the rpms, then slowly gets slower, sounds like its going to stall then repeats the above. There is also occasional popping from the exhaust. Its getting plenty of fuel, thats fresh, has new plugs, fresh oil. What do you all think. I am thinking its something with the points, and condenser, but didnt have time to check that out tonight. Awaiting your replies. Thanks. Jim |

That is real common with the Briggs. It's easily fixed by barely turning up the idle. Turn it enough to take care of the rough idle but not so much that it creeps in gear (drives slowly without you pressing the throttle). These engines don't have points or condensers. |

Hey thanks Roadwolf where do you get the ngk slicer kits? Never heard of them. Thanks also Brandon, I did turn the idle up a tad, and it seems to have gotten better, I did turn the idle down in the winter because it was creeping a bit, guess I over did it, no points and condenser huh, boy I feel like an idiot, glad I didnt pull the flywheel and go looking for them. Thanks again. Jim |

Hey "roaddawg" what is an NGK slicer kit? For that matter what is high tension wires, do you mean the spark plug wires? Hey did you by chance have Jack Daniels or Jim Beam stop by the house and stay a little longer than you expected? I will admit to Jose Cuervo stopping by my place last night! That's how I came up with the idea of injecting synthetic motor oil in the throttle cable tubing assembly. |
