Hi im new at route 6X6 I have a quetion about my attex. The problem im having is when i try to go foward it only goes about two feet foward and very slowly even at a higher rev. Same thing happends in reverse. To me it sounds like its slipping but im new to the 6x6 world so if anyone could help me out it would be a big help. Also it has new pucks and chains |

Sounds lkie you have something binding like a chain or a bearing. Lift the whole machine so that no wheels are touching the ground. Rotate the wheels and see if they bind. If something binds, loosen the chains until the wheels turn freely. You may even have to remove some chains to determine if a bearing is seizing. Once you know all the wheels turn free, post a message and we can go from there. |

Fred: Here is the bad news. I'm not familiar with an Attex as old as yours. Now for the good news. There are some people on this board that are!!! Now for more bad news. From the small amount of info I have, it sounds like a tranny problem. Now for the good news. I'm not familiar with anything except the T-20 so I could be wrong about the tranny!!! In a T-20 if the bands sit in water they delaminate and they have no grip. Hense the slipping problem. I'm sure someone with old Attex knowledge will chime in and help you out. BTW. Liflod has some good advise. Do what he said and then report what you found out. |

Attex Bob, The old style transmission works on the same principle as the T-20 only there are external brake pads that hold the ring gear or planet carrier depending on braking or engaging. The T-20 uses the bands internally to do the same thing. |

Thanks for the info liflod. It's sounding like more and more like the tranny if there is no binding when you roll it. The "new" T-20 locks up "real" tight when engaged because it has bands that wind up like a spring around a drum. Sounds like the old style is less efficient and might need to be adjusted if they are like brake pads. Fred, the pucks transmit the power from the engine to the wheels. If they are not adjusted correct they slip. Like a car with a bad tranny. Keep Liflod and me informed and I'm sure that we can help you get your old Attex running like new again!!!!! |

I have no seat time in an old transmission Attex. I have one that I took apart to see how it works. If you take the discs apart to expose the sun and planetary set, there is a sun gear that is attatched to the output of the transmission . One side of the one I have has this sun gear that is very sharp and just about worn through. If the sun gear in Fred's machine has broken and has some garbage in the teeth, it would only make one revolution (about 2 feet) before it came to a screeching halt! There is a grease fitting on the unit to keep it lubricated internally, but if no one has used it , the damage is already done. I would pull the chains off the transmission and see if you can spin the output disc by hand and see if that is where the binding is coming from. |

ok i took the top off a took a look those disks while it was not running. I can spin the disks freely when the levers are not activated. But when i push the lever foward the disk locks up. This happends on both sides of the machien. Sounds like it is working like its suppose to? Also where are the greese fittings and what kind of greese should i use. |

the fittings are next to output sprokets on outside discs,(3 in hub area each side of trans) can use a little gear oil or a little grease from gun, the usuail fitting looks like beveled hole in the disc hub, you use a bullet shaped rubber tiped attatchment on grease gun or nozzel of gear lube container, only a little, it will lube and then be spread all over the planetary's sun and ring gear by centrificle force, this coating helps reduce rusting, too much however will come out of the tranny on your brake discs, you will need a rag and a can of brake cleaner to keep the brake discs clean, (try too keep the cleaner out of the trany insides) you can clean calipers this way too! oridganal equipment pucks can servive grease ok, they are oil bearing bronse, but some people make there own pucks with hole saw freom standerd auto disc brake pads, these work ok but wair out quickly and require alot more adgusting, + grease will hurt them, good luck |
