I have an early Hustler that I recently bought. It runs great but when I turn from stopped I hear LOUD popping noises from inside the machine. It jerks a bit when doing this. Could that be sloppy chains? Functioning in forward or reverse the machine "jumps" at first, then pulls itself smoothly. Has the Borg-Warner T-20 trans. Any ideas about this problem, I'm new to the mechanics of these critters. |

Jerry: I would jack one side up and turn the tires and look at the chains and sprockets at the same time. Sounds like worn out sprockets or rusty chains to me. |

Jerry, My ARGO does the exact same thing. I can only hear it when I lean into the back compartment though and it does it really loudly under a heavy load. My middle chains are stretched a lot and the tensioners don't take the slack anymore. I think its either my tensioners getting flipped around or the chain snapping back when it catches up with the rest of them from being slack and tightening up. I have not bothered to pull the floor boards out and check though so I can't say for sure. Let me know what you come up with. djhkeeso@rogers.com |
