I have wanted a convertible top for my max for a long time, but they're r just way too expensive. Is there anywhere that you guys know of where i can get one cheeper than buying from max? Or is there an easy way to make one? Thanks |

For the MAX IV, I have just constructed a decent top for about $220-250. I will post pictures in Jan 2014 when I head back to our cabin. 1) I purchased this Tusk bikini top for a Razr xp900 4 UTV for about $70.00. It fits the Max IV Roll cage nearly perfectly! I put in a few ½”pvc pipe cross braces with zip ties to limit sag. 2) I ordered 7 lineal yards of marine window plastic UV-100-P .019 (20ga) Paper Interleaved http://www.perfectfit.com/15282/256832/Clear-Window-Vinyl/-Achilles-UV-Treated-R oll-Clear-Vinyl--With-Paper--54-wide.html 3) Ordered 3 rolls of 2" velcro (all 25 yards)...about $25.00 per roll. qty1-2" sew on loop 25 yards, qty1-2" sew on hook 25 yards 3233-1190773 / 2" / Black $23.75 , qty1 adhesive back 2" hook 25 yards. Perfectfit also had good pricing for the velcro. Very fast! 4) (wife with a heavy duty sewing machine needle and outdoor thread), sewed on 2" hook velcro around the underside perimeter of the sides and back of Tusk Top. I folded the velcro around the entire perimeter of the window vinyl to reinforce. Then my wife sewed a strip of 2" velcro loop across the top of the 7 yards of window plastic. She was going to teach me to use her Kenmore sewing machine but was smart and realized it was quicker to do herself...kind of like loading the dish washer! Attached the top of window loop plastic/velcro to underside of bikini top hook velcro. Cut panels accordingly to mate with roll bars. Made a rear corner piece each side from the roll bar back to engine cover, angling to top of the rear of the Tusk top. Pictures will help. 5) Folded 2" loop velcro over perimeter of side and back window plastic and wife sewed through. I used an Avery denison gun micro stitch fastener (can buy on Amazon) to tack velcro in place for my wife to sew later. 6) Attached adhesive 2" hook velcro to body of atv and wrapped around the vertical roll bars to mate with loop on window plastic. Also attached short velcro to top of side panels so they could be rolled up and head in place with velcro strips, cut to 1" width. 7) For the rear window, I will run the window vinyl over the engine cover to capture heat...if you never hear back from me, CO poisoning may have done me in. I am 90% complete and this works really well, is modular, and looks better than any top I have seen. I like that the Tusk top is black and that the other panels are all clear. I used black velcro. My windshield is a piece of Plexiglass, zip tied to the roll bar. I found I am now mostly immune to snowball fights...as long as I do not high center and the tracks start to spin. It will be nice to not have the atv full of snow, when somebody parks it outside! |
