hello well here goes another ???? you all have helped me with the tire question i had now it is about my clutch on my maxIV OK it has a 484cc 2 stroke what should this engine idle at and at what RPM should the clutch engage at the way mine acts I'm sure it is shot talking about a big stall speed all i need now is a tranny break then watch out supergas cars LOL it don't really come in to say 4500to4700 rpm it gets me stuck more than anything with tire spin so can some one give me an idea what rpm i should be looking at for engagment thanks Mark |

Mark: I don't have a tach on mine so I can't really say for sure. Mines WAY up there also. I don't know if it's 4,500, but it's up there. I would say at least 3,500 before it even starts moving. When I first got my super chief I thought it was a super eliminator car!!!!!! Art Carr has nothing on this thing!!! Ha ha ha..... Mine was worthless with bald tires in the sand at the beach. I would gas it and I would be sitting on the belly pan in about 1/4 second!!! |

can understand were you are coming from on that i working on a commit 108c rite now with a shop with weights and spring just trying to get an idea what it should be i would love to get it down to were it's just off of idea you know in stead of out in the twilight zone |

Mark, Generally speaking I would say the engine should idle as slow as possible. It should idle reliably, and accellerate without hesitating, and the clutch should engage at a point where the engine does not bog as it tries to move your Max, but not too high. I can check my old sled manuals to see what they recommend for an idle setting for the Chappy motor, if it will help. Kevin |
