Hi, I am a new member in this board and I just bought a used 2000 Argo Bigfoot, Tried on yesterday, everthing work fine but when i tried to run it back up to the trailer, my
Argo slip backward on low gear because of the angle. is that ok.
if I put a 5 h.p in the middle lake with some wave, do you think is ok?
any tip on turning and braking?

Just want to ask I feel a little soft on My new used 2000 bigfoot Argo. is that normal or any suggestion on tire pressure, are those tire easy to get flat if cut by sharp rock or metal?

Make sure your shifter is down in the index slot for that gear. if it was out of gear a little bit when there is a load applied it will pop out of gear. I run 3.5 lbs. in my Argo conquest and haven't had any problems over sharp rocks. have picked up a nail but pulled it pluged it. I have hit a rock I didn't see while crossing a stream it made a small dint in the rim. While climbing steep rocks I might put 5 lbs. in the front tires to protect the rim.
carry a plug kit and a co2 inflater
and have fun my Argo will go almost anywhere. |

Your Argo will slip or roll backwards in low or high gear when you are trying to drive it up a tilt trailer if the clutches are not engaged by higher rpm on the motor. It just takes a little practice to drive it up onto a tilt bed. Another trick is to put a board on the bottom of the trailer bed for the front tires to touch. The board should be placed where the trailer will tip up when the Argo reaches it with the front tires. I have my tilt bed set up this way. When I drive up it will tilt down to the towing position. I just climb out and put the pin in and lock it in place. When I take the Argo off I reach up and start it and after it is warmed up put it into low gear. I then go to the back of the trailer and just give a tug on the argo or step on the back of the trailer. It tips down and the Argo rolls off slowly and doesn't go much further than clearing the trailer bed. If you do this in neutral it will roll a lot further and faster.
Your tires on the bigfoot are very durable and rugged. Since the machine doesn't have a suspension the tires are what absorbs the shock. I run between 2 and 3.5 pis in my runamuch tires which are a lot less durable than what comes on the bigfoot. I have not had any problems with tire damage but I have bent the rims a little. I normally just hammer them back into shape with a 2.5 pound sledge. Lower tire pressure will save your axles.
A 5hp motor will be fine. The Briggs and Stratton air cooled 5hp motors are perfect for the machine. I can't advise you on the waves and all because that would depend on a bunch of factors. Small waves and boat wakes are not a problem if they are from a small jon boat or from a good distance away. If you are in a lake with ski boats or jet skis then be very careful. I've had people on jet skis almost swamp me several times jst trying to get a closer look at the Argo. Of course they didn't slow down and were circling me. Watch your load on the water and make sure your bilge pump works. If you don't have a bilge pump get a a fast one or high capacity one. Since you have a small boat (Argo) you need a big pump.
I developed a critical leak a couple of days ago and without a bilge and getting to shore quickly things would have be disasterous. I had somehow torn the cork gaskets on the left front and they were letting water pour in.
Take your time in learning to drive it and be careful on steep hills. |
