If your Max ever comes out of gear you have no steering, I had this happen! I had a wild ride off the road crossed a ditch and rode over some bushes. The breaks on your steering levers dont work either. My disc foot break was not very effective as they are usually wet and greasy. I will just leave it to your imagination as to how dangerious this could be. You just become a helpless victom along for the ride on a freewheeling machine with "O" control!! My MaxII has about 50 hrs. .............................Gyro |

If your Max comes out of gear, chances are you didn't put it all the way in gear to begin with. The gears on mine are real tight and haven't ever slipped. Jam it back in gear next time, it's not hard to do when the machine is moving and your life depends on it. |

I've been working on and owning many t-20 machines over the last 20 years. The only way it can come out of gear is if it was not all the way in gear in the first place. Of course you will say it was all the way in gear...However the fact is if it was all the way in gear it would stay in gear. |

I am not saying it was all way in gear, Probably not! But it happened. I was running flat out on a level road, I thought it would never stop. It crossed a ditch into some tall bushes, A soft landing. Now I double check the shifter after I start out, Making sure it is in the indent good. I also hold the footbreak on to dry it out, It is much more effective. I love my MaxII. It is amazing what it will do. I just want everybody to be aware that this happened. No falt of the machine. I took off in a Cessna with my seat belt hanging out the door, I didnt blame that fine machine for that loud banging on the side ..........................Gyro |

e-i-e-i-ooh who cairs, it's happend too me and i don't cair how it happend at all, gyro is right if you have to bail chanses are poor you will get out in time!! worse in a MAX IV, i tryed just incase, forget it! call your insurence provider before riding one somplace chalenging! unless you have the new attex type disc brakes, then you will probley have a chance, now if gyro has them and thay don't work well may i sugest adition of miny hydralic calipers to the RI disc system with a master cylender and lever on left laterel, so on the left you have e-brake and right you have throtle, now back to the miny hydralik brake calipers(90's tech) add fuly metalic pads(60's tech)the same metal disc pads attex used in the early machines like the 208-tt would work even wet with water or oil!! it's the replacment semi metalic's that don't work well in water and oil. thats my two cents |

David: I agree with you, contary to what most people say, these machines still need major upgrades to become modern units. I think Richard said it best when he posted on this board that "these are opinions of the readers and not necessary correct and not the opinion of Route6x6" I understand why he installed this note on this board. and now I see why Richard (the expert for real) does not get involved with answering these many messages. Many of you people would just tell him he is wrong and how great everything is about these machines. Steve Pinkston |

>>> David, You wrote: now I see why Richard (the expert for real) does not get involved with answering these many messages.>>> I consider the unfortunate and rare person to have a Max come out of gear to be "The real expert" You will always be thinking, What if it happened here, At this moment? |

OOOH yah, i know, if it's not the trany coming out of gear it's somthing like what if: a jackshaft shears, a chain brakes, an axel brakes, the faster you go the more that can go wrong and cause a catastropy, last year when i rolled my max over due to a chain adjuster failure,i would have bin killed by this acedent if not for the most incredibly good luck i had ,sombody saw the machine upside down and ran over and had it off me within 60 seconds (it seamed) anyway i was dead if not for that person, i was pinned with my left arm under my chest and unable to draw a single breath and in 5 or 10 miniets it would be a little too late for me, ok, i should have replaced the rear adjusters sooner with somthing more dureble, like i did in the frount,so the blame might be 50/50 myself and the machine, i have done it since, and now we will see if it holds up or not, meanwhill i'l keep looking at places along the trail and think oooh this would be a bad time for...... |

I have an argo response. I'm not clear on what is exactly happening on this max's transmission that would cause it to run away. I'd like to understand it better. Also what exactly happened when the chain adjuster failed that would cause the machine to flip? Did the drive chain jam throw the Max sideways? Thanks for the "accident" recount. Tom |

on trans, somehow thay rarly fall out of gear, but if and when that hapens your helples to do anything if your moveing, no brakes & no stearing eather!, on the rollover, i was tryin a power slide wich involves all the tires on one side spining and the rear one was draging instead! at 40 mph that is a bad time too find out! it went on it's side violently and then over pining me as described above, i am concidering a roll bar, |
