I think the money just dried up. From what I heard manufactures told me the Japanese killed the entire six-wheeler industry starting with their ATC 90 and on. Also I gather the insurance to race is unbelievable and we basically have no insurance organization left for 6 wheelers like other organizations have.. That's one reason I try to promote the sport because if we had more selection of machines or better machines so people would spend the money on them at some point their would be enough people to have our own insurance pool etc. Just to give you an example I used to fly radio control planes. You join the ama (American model association) and are at an event you are insured etc if you kill somebody in a crash etc. and It seemed like the ins was like 3 bucks to join. I think there was also more. I remember about 1971 stopping at a gas station every weekend on the way to this place and gas was .23 cents a gallon. I think my Dad's wages as a patternmaker were about 8.50 hr then. The camping and sportsman's industry was huge. Some where around 1980 I think people really got disinterested. And I think its much the same as what has happened now People wages were not inline with inflated energy prices. Then when Attex seemed to be the last to market Firestone Floatation tires and the tires were gone it hurt us all. The ATC 90 may have also brought allot of lawsuits against floatation tires. The track in Ashtabula Ohio is still raced with 4 wheelers. I've discussed it before with Bud Fisher etc. The cost to put on a bunch of races ins wise is not that much more then the initial race but you have to have interest to support it all and in today's busy world things become a headache real fast. I think it basically came down to money, you can have a 4 wheeler ins group to sponsor races and pack the stands and have good turnout you make money can afford to advertise on the radio etc. And as far as cooperate sponsors you got Argo and Max that's not many compared to before. Cool Pictures Marc I'd be interested in hearing your front engine scrambler stories. |

I am hearing the races at ashtabula are back on over memorial day weekend. Any truth to that? J-WHACKER racing will be their in a hustler in the 4 stroke class if it is on. If it is, better word needs to get out. cool pics marc, looking for a scrambler for a 800cc artic cat motor for the 4 stroke class. coolest looking machine ever built. |

Ashtabula is a go for Friday/Saturday/Sunday Memorial weekend. I think the classes will depend on how many people show up and with what machines they show up with. It's gonna be a blast! |

I am undecided about that. Might go. I used to go to a couple of races back in the 70's. Ran a stock ATTEX with a 340cc. You guys's planning any Haspin runs? I looked at the Haspin ride last March and that had to brutal but fun. Are you going to the Ledges? |

bob, As of now Im going to the ledges. the price is getting out of control, so that might change. depends on how memorial day turns out. im thinking maybe the badlands or haspin in july instead of the ledges, not sure. I will let you now either way. the snow on the spring ride a year ago didn't seem real, but man it was fun and also cold. haspin with a foot of snow is a deadly place to say the very least. the night ride was quite the adveture. |

The contact person for this is Leo @ Leo's all season vehicles. PH.# 440-285-1730. The other event is a race and sorry I don't have details on this. I think there is info on somewhere in this forum. Hope this helps you |

Bud says there will be trail riding as well as the races for Memorial Day Weekend. I don't know how elaborate the trail system is- last time I was at Pine Lake was 1973 and there were no trails at the time. I just tried the Pine Lake site and it didn't work, but I'm assuming it will be back up soon. http://www.fischercycle.com/fischer_cycle_racing_new_015.htm |

Ryan, last I heard Bud was getting some trails ready for the race weekend, but I haven't heard how many there will be. I'll be sure and post it if I hear anything more. Lance, I was never really gone- there just wasn't many times that I thought I could add anything useful! I'll be racing along with my two teenagers (they're about the age I was the last time I did this!) Don |

Ryan; I'm not sure, but I don't think there were many (if any) trails at Pine Ridge until now. Bud may be breaking new ones or remarking existing ones. I'll post if I hear more. |

That's great, Ryan. We plan on being there late Thursday night or early Friday morning and staying until Monday morning. It'll be great to meet you. There's an awful lot of people that say they're coming, Jeff, but many times when it comes down to the event lots of them are no-shows so it remains to be seen. |

Probably Sunday, Robert. If they run it like they did years ago, there will be heat races on Saturday and feature races Sunday. Of course, that all depends on how many people/machines show up! |

I just read a post from Whipper about the event- he's been talking to Bud and keeping everyone up to date. A few of the trails were a little torn up from the quads and Bud's been grooming some of them, and there's plenty of mud & water for everybody. I remember a couple lakes on the place. It should be a great weekend- maybe if there's enough people/machines to compete, we can talk him into making it an annual event. Don |

It looks like there's going to be a pretty good turn out for the Ashtabula races. We're loaded up and ready to go; should be leaving in the wee hours of the morning. If anyone needs an address to punch into the GPS or Mapquest, use this one: 2488 Plymouth Gageville Rd Ashtabula, OH 44004 That address should get you close, but you'll have to take Maple road to the track (by the looks of it, Maple starts right at the address given. Hope to see many of you there. |

And that's not all of the machines. There were about 10-12 more machines to the right that didn't fit in the frame. I know, because one of them was me. Great bunch of people. |
