I have a 16hp Tecumseh motor in my 80's argo and I would like to know if a 18hp Briggs and Straton will fit in the same body without too many changes. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

Kenneth, it should fit depending on the hood you have- what model is yours- with a 16 tec i think those were the old heavy duty ARGOs, some of those had a different size hood that may not give enough room- post a pic and we can see |

Thank you Dave. I am sending you some pics of my Argo and maybe you can let me know if the motor will fit. |

Hey Ken, as far as I can tell its actually a late 70's machine. This is the newest model after ODG switched from ABS bodies to the HDP bodies. Before they released the industrial commercial model Argo, these were the top of the line machine. The 16 HP tec engine was the top of the line when this model was released. Im pretty sure its a an ARGO 6 (thats all they called it) but still looks like the 6x6 twin- I think you should be able to install the B&S- You will have to measure how much height you have from the engine mount plate to the top of the inside of the hood but I think it would work fine. The tires look like rawhides with a custom track- looks a bit loose. This model was replaced with the 6x6 vanguard model in the late 70's just before the introduction of the Magnum model. |

Thanks again for all the info. I have 18 inches from the motor support up to the underside of the hood. It should fit. Yea, the track looks a little slack but I built one and tried it in 10 inches of snow and doesn't seem to slip. The other one is just about finished. here is a pic. |

Kennith, I don't know where you run your machine but in the past I have had problems with the ARGO climbing out of the tracks in really deep wet snow. Although the tire guides on your tracks seem to be much higher than the ones on stock track systems, and looks like their is less chance of a climb out, consider the edges of these guides you have a puncture point for tires. I can't tell from the pic if they are sharp but just something I thought i would pass on to consider. |
