I have heard of a few people getting them made at upholstery shops that make tops and rear deck enclosures for boats. But I have not seen any in person. I had a jeep top made once. It would be about the same.

Thank you for responding, I am hoping that someone out there may have made there own and they will have some tips. Mike, that is a very nice top, did you make the frame yourself, and if so, what type of metal did you use ? size, etc.

Actually there are many things about that roof that show a great deal of ingenuity. The rear rack, the winch platform, the roof winch rollers and most of all Easy Access swinging doors! A bit
too much weight for a lot of water
use but I like the thought that someone put into that work. I prefer not to call someone else's work Crappy.

The builder of the roof likely built it to fit his needs in using the Max. His needs and uses may not be necessarily what someone else may want. It took a lot of planning and ingenuity to build that and I happen to like some of his ideas.

When making a top like the one shown in the ebay pictures, and taking into account weight and how it will perform in the water, and since its winter here, I have yet to experience my argo in the water. How much weight can you have up there before you start having weight or tipping problems? The homemade top on ebay at first glance looks a little rough, but if you go through the pictures, its quite ingenius, and like Argohunter and Phillip have pointed out, it really does have some unique features, so everytime I look at it again, its looking better and better, just wondering about the weight issues you brought up, I wouldnt want to make a mistake on my bigfoot, whats your advice?
Thank You!

Joe-It is difficult indeed to give you good advice re: building a top for a Bigfoot,if you intend to use it in the water, because Argo states very clearly NOT to take a 6wheeler with a ROPS into the water. I think that they are being over cautious. In the end I would look at the hundreds of pictures posted under the readers rides and build a light weight collapsible roof ( a boat roof) like Argo sell and a separate ,removable roll bar structure if you feel you want it. I built a roll bar cage with snap on panels for my Max IV ,so it would be fair to say that I am not doing as I say. I certainly wish you luck and please post a picture of anything that you do build.

Surface area is another consideration of a top when you go out into the water. If you use a ROP cage that weight combined with the surface area of a top can make it a challenge to operate if there is a little bit of wind.

I never thought about the wind factor, just the weight, I will look at the pictures other readers have submitted and get some ideas. We just got back from up north, the first time I had the argo anywhere other than the lawn, it worked great, but we had 50 below wind chills coming across the lake, and a top would have been nice, here is a picture I took up there. On the lake at the cabin in Isabella MNOn the lake at the cabin in Isabella MN 2

I don't know if you thought about an exit plan so I am mentioning it. You need to be able to get out of it easily in case you tip it over in the water, so think about that when you design your top.

I just tried to post a message and it didnt seem to work, so this will be a shorter version. Philip, would it be possible to get some pictures of your Max with the top? The more I think about that idea, the more I like it, if youd rather not resize the pictures to post them here, please email them to me, I would really appreciate it.

Thank You!

6x6 Friends

The limit size requirement for PHOTOS on this board, is very large at 500KB in file size. Physical size of no more than 900x2000 pix. Which is over 12"x 26" size, this is larger than many common computers can display, without the computer resizing the photo to fit its screen. If you are taking photos on a digital camera, go into the settings and reduce size of image being stored, a side benefit is photos will up and down load on your computer mush faster, and more photos being stored on your camera, due to less file size.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks

I finally got most of my Argo top done, I decided to go with a hard top , mainly because I knew I could do it. My wife says its the ugliest damn top shes ever seen but it works great, very easily is removed, and I put lights on the front, and back, and inside, I also switched the battery out and put in a 900 cca car battery, and took the old one and tucked it down behind the front seat and ran 6 foot cables to tie the two batteries together, so now it seems as though I have unlimited battery power ( so far )when running the lights and heater etc.I still have some painting to do on the new top, but last night I took it out in 8 below zero weather, and it was toasty in there.ugly or not, I like it. I have lots of pictures if anyone wants to see more.

Way to go Joe!! Congratulations. At 8 below nothin' F* only a wife could be interested in esthetics. You know, the longer you look at it,it kinda grows on you. Unbolt three uprights on each side and you can lift it off? Right? It's nice to have no roof in the summer on my 8 wheeler. Is there any way to get into the back?

I have 4 spots on the top where its an inch steel, and the 3/4 steel drops down into it, then I welded a little piece of steel on top of the bolt that you screw in( it works as a handle so you dont need a wrench to take it off or put it on ) and it holds it solid, the middle pieces of metal your seeing just support weight when you get in and out, they are not bolted to anything.
Yes, I have a back door too, this baby is perfect ( unless your the wife ha ha )

I got a canvas type fold away canopy with my unit and I can tell you I wouldn't be without one now in winter. Its a bit of a pain in the butt if you are hauling firewood and to get in and out of but the benefits outweigh the minor annoyances. One thing when you are traveling in powder it keeps the snow out as well as keeping all the hunting gear out of the rain. Anyone with super tracks are also aware that when spring hits those tracks spit up fountains of water that will soak you if the wind isn't in your favour. One other huge benefit in winter is the engine heats the inside up so it's toasty when travelling. Well worth having one. I can post a picture if anyone is interested.

I bought the Argo from it's original owner so not really sure where it came from. I think it would be easy enough to make if you have the tools. Any boat top maker would have all the stuff. It is held on with snaps and will fold down on the back out of the way and has a zipped cover to enclose it all when away. I have all the doors removed because it was a decent day out and didn't need them.92 Magnum

Well to be honest I have been thinking of making another cover and utlizing the existing framework. There is a tear that was repaired before I got it and it leaks a bit when it rains hard. I have managed to seal it up with silicone spray for now, but of course the tear happens to be directly over the driver, everyone else stays nice and dry. It is a bit cumbersome to get into the Argo with the cover, especially when it's sitting up on a foot of powder snow but that may have something to do with age and flexibility. Does anyone know what Argo charges for these things?

I am still planning on it however I have to get my garage up first. As it stands now I don't have the room to work, but should have in a month or so. If I don't get to it immediately after it's up, then it will likely be fall time frame as I will be engaged in walleye chasing for most of the summer. Stay tuned.
