I would like to hear from you guys on engine location. I plan on building a aatv and trying to decide on front, back or more to the center.Haven't ever drove a 6x6 so just looking for advantages and disadvantages. I would like to use hydralic power if possible so any site with info on that would be great also. |

Tough call,I guess the ultimate would be the combined weight in the center and as low as possible.Your design would then determine which way you would deviate.Driver in the middle is good down hill, driver in the front easier to thread thru obstacles.Traction is not an issue you have 6 or 8 wheel drive. |

I think the people who designe thier own do so more to fit a specific purpose. what is your need? 6 wheel or 8? do you want to fish from it or even go in the water, climb hills like a 4 wheeler. Tell us what you want. |

Here is what I will be using in my VW Differential & if you don't know it is located inside the VW Transmission if you would like to read an article about it use this link: www.peloquins.com/pr_euro_car_2003.html this would be for Volkswagen only but Quaife Differentials has a lot more lockers of the same type for probably hundreds of different applications so if you wanted to you could probably incorporate a differential inside your machine. This is something that Argo might possibly benefit from. I believe the T-20 is about 1500.00 & If I remember correctly I saw these from around 600.00 to 1200.00 on the Quaife site depending on the application. |

That first pic is an open Diff. & the rest that follow are pics of the internal workings of the Locker it has 2 Sun gears & 10 planetary allowing both sides to pull. One side can be locked with a brake & or operated in the reverse direction of the other side & vise versa however you could only operate the opposite side in the reverse direction via another mechanical system This would be for a true Zero turning radius I plan to use Air motors for that but I don't think it will be necessary as most skid steers turn in a pretty sharp radius anyway. |

Thanx for the link Howard that is a good idea. I was thinking of a snowmobile engine so that diff would probably be alot stronger. Do you have any build up pics or are you in design stage still? I might be getting in over my head with the hydralics setup so this is a better route. |
