I am in the process of buying an ARGO Response. I am going to title it as a boat to hunt from it on area lakes. Anybody have a source for insurance? State Farm will not insure amphibious vehicles. They will insure all the jet skis and 4 wheelers in the world but not my 8X8. |

Jerry, I am an Argo dealer in Maine. Almost everyone here goes through Progressive Insurance. They seem to be used to them. I don't know where you live, but you might try them. |

Interesting. They insured by Max 6x6 as an ATV. Perhaps the difference is that I titled my Max II as an ATV and then registered it as a boat. The darn thing now has a Pennsylvania boat registration and numbers, ATV decal with it's imprinted number and a snowmobile sticker with it's number. I get confused on which registration form to show when I'm checked! If state laws allow, you might try getting the ATV title (and pay the sales tax on that) and then registering it as a boat. It worked for me in PA. |

I use a local insurance company for fire/theft protection on my Max. In Missouri, amphibious vehicles are considered like a John Deere Gator or similar farm vehicle and are included in the liability insurance of our property! That means if I invite my friend over and we go on a suicide run and he gets hurt, the insurance pays for it. If I had any quad, dirtbike, or three wheeler the liability insurance must be bought separate and is very expensive. Also in Missouri you can register an Argo as an amphibious vehicle. That makes it legal for not only public lakes, but also for running it on the street! You can drive down the road to your favorite fishing hole without the worry of cops. That is yet another thing you can't do with a quad. MaxRules |

Interesting! We are insured with Farm Bureau, and they will insure an AATV, but they put it in the same risk pool with the 3 & 4 wheelers and the rates are outrageous. And, in order to use public waterways, anything that floats & uses mechanical propuslion of any kind must be registered as a motorboat. However, when I tried to register my Argo, I was informed that it is a vehicle, not a vessel, and doesn't need to be registered. |
