DOES ANYONE HAVE UP-TO-DATE INFORMATION ON TERRA-JET OR REB INDUSTRIES? I want to know if they are making them BRAND NEW for today's ATV market. By the way, who is Reb Industries? There is a picture at the top of ACTIONS PHOTO GALLERY of a REB. Any information, both Terra-Jet and REB, (confirmation, web addresses, business phone numbers, distributors, ect...) would be a big help in my son and I buying an amphibious mini-jeep. Not everyone in the U.S. wants a quad! Thanks for any help-------BILLY
p.s.-----I've been to Terra-Jet USA's web site and quite frankly, the amount of information available was not nearly enough (mostly pictures). |

I'M JUST FULL OF QUESTIONS! How about the COOT or the CROCO (CROCO from Switzerland looks almost the same). I read in the message boards here that COOT is making a big come-back. If anyone has COOT'S web address they should post it in the manufactures link section and if COOT reads this: if you don't, you should have a home page.
Is Terra-Jet going to make new models of the 453te or just modern reproductions of the 1970s version. I've been trying real hard to find as much info on my own, but little is on the web. If you like the Terra-Jet 453te (fiber glass version) as much as I do then check out this guy...

My opinion is, who ever he is, he should be working for TERRA-JET's engineering division making new models! He's got the right idea, because that's exactly what I want, modern colors on one tough rig.

Not long ago Terra-jet introduced a new model, the big 6x6. It looks pretty rugged, but it must handle like a tank. You are best off with a coot if you can get your hands on one. There is some talk about a new coot that should be hitting the market soon. There are no websites and almost NO info on this new vehicle. The best place to find info on the original coot is www.cootworld.com, there is a link to it on route 6x6. The croco is no in longer production, I think it was available in the mid 80's and then kind of vanished like so many other amphibious atvs. Since the "amphibious mini jeep market" is in rough shape, you might be interested in the "amphibious mini tank market". There is a new tracked atv called THE ALL-TERRAINER, made by a company called ALL-TERRAIN INDUSTRIES INC. they don't have a site.

Thanks again, Dmike. I'm going to follow up on your tip (All Terrain Industries Inc.) and I'll get back to you, when they get back to me.
I'm interested in what the ALL-TERRAINER looks like, performance, as well as price, but it sounds like it's a bit too much tank for family recreation.
I also have been looking into the COOT. There is an article at the bottom of COOTWORLD from TIME magazine, talking about the new company. I also received an E-main (in response to my posting) from a guy in California who owned 25-27 different COOTS and restores them professionally for over the past 3 decades. He's really knowledgeable and could help you place an order for the 2001 COOT. He said that he test drove one of the prototypes (with the big wheel option) and it was exhillerating! -- even for a guy who's owned them for 30 years.
Before I drop $11,000 on a 2001 COOT (which sound like the common sense thing to do),
I want to hear from TERRA-JET owners on the ups and downs of the newer JETs. |

Check with MaxRules at his webpage. He had a T-Jet. There are some photos on his site. I also had questions about them when I was looking into a decent used AATV. He was helpful with the good, the bad and the ugly about Terra Jet. |

Some of my friends and I are interested in buying new phibs this year, we're trying to find out what works best for each of us. It seems we all want something a little different than the other.

I sent an E-mail with some ideas for new models of T-Jets to the U.S.A. Manufacture, but when they replied -- they didn't seem to be interested in the idea of a new line of MONSTER JETs.
Just the usual ---"We'll send you info in the mail".
I don't mean bigger or even huge. I mean building them with modern technology and accessories (not just snow plows).
The Terra-jet 453te (figerglass version) has so many possibilities for new body styles and bright colors. I would also change the roll cage to look more like a jeep wrangler (padded and all conected). Give it really comfortable high-back bucket seats, too.
Also, the VA-6 could look alot "MEANER" and modern, then the 1970's style. It could look more like a Mini-Hummer or something Military looking with more rounded surfaces [less boxed].
Remember now, I'm talking apples and oranges with the amphibs. Obviously 6x6 and 8x8 vehicles are top dog in the AATV class. But for 4x4 amphibs, the Terra-Jet or the COOT is worth the extra $$,$$$ [compared to quads]. Unless your a fisherman, no one spends all day in the lake, but if you need it, you'll wish you had it! I've seen too many stupid quads go swimming and drown!
2 to 6 mph in the water isn't fast, but it's still floating on by the other guy.
I know so many people who would buy new, tougher Monster Jets if they would only go back to the drawing board and build off of the Terra-Jet Traditions of amphibious strength. So many people have no idea that Terra-Jets or Coots even exist to the ATV or AATV world. As a society, we're force fed the bikes and quads as the "norm" on radio and TV.
Every Spring where I live, there is an ATV run. Kind of like the county fair. On Saturday 5,000 motorcycles, and on Sunday 7,000 Quads go on a badlands cruise. There are 5 trails [30-40 miles each] a lot of mud pits and streams to cross.
The point is--- there is a need for amphibious machines. Some people don't want to (or can't) spend the money --- SOME DO! I'm no Uncle Sugar, but an amphib is worth two quads any day of the week. You don't see too many quad owners complaining about the price, they own 2 or 3.
If Terra-Jets don't find the Fountian of Youth in the next few years, they might be eating dust on the AATV market. The Coot is in production again, after a 1985 hault. I've seen a prototype(E-mailed to me), and it looks like the old Coot on steroids! It has an all new drive train, suspension, engine, roll cage, and a huge tire option..etc... The price tag is $10,900. Sounds like a lot, but remember it's new for 2001.
I still love the JET! Sometimes I wish I had 10 million dollars, then [I] would start building some MONSTER MUD MACHINES for the "Next Generation" AATV Lovers!
It's hard to be a DAD on a Quad!
Hey kids... watch me ride off into the sunset! Maybe in ten years you can get a quad a go too...

I owned a Terra Jet VA-6 from early '96 to '99. Billy asked my opinion on a lot of different TJ things, so here they are.
Handling - It uses a steering wheel just like a car. The gas pedal and brake pedal is also just like a car, except you must use both feet instead of one like you do on a car (steering wheel shaft runs between your feet which blocks one foot from hitting the other pedal). The steering wheel gives great control at high speeds (45mph) but has a big disadvantage when it comes to turning. The wheels don't have very much room to turn, so you better have a 20 acre field to turn around in!
Land speeds, engine power - The reason the TJ gets 45mph out of a 16hp engine is because the high gear is very high geared. Low gear must be used on all hills and pulling. Low gear tops out at about 5mph but it will pull anything. Reverse is geared the same as low gear.
Water - This is one of the best things about the TJ. The 26" tires (same as Max IV) have the V pointing forward for mud traction. Normally on a 6x6 this would give bad water speed. The Terra Jet paddles through the water at an easy 6mph yet has the tires on for mud. It is stable in the water and turns good with regular steering. Turning and leaning will give a very sharp turn.
Maintenance - Change the oil and add gas. I should have changed the tranny fluid but never could find a drain plug. I guess it has to be sucked out of the fill hole. The rear axle comes directly out of the transmission, like shaft drive. A very long chain then comes off the axle and goes all the way up to the front axle. I never found a way to adjust that chain. The machine is true four wheel drive all the time.
Snow, mud - The TJ has a full 10" of unobstructed ground clearance under the entire vehicle. This makes the machine good in mud. The only thing hurting it on soft terrain is it's heavy weight (1050 pounds) on just four tires. I ran it in 12" of snow with two wheel drive. Oops, not finding that chain adjustment wasn't too good. The drive chain for the front wheels eventually broke. I sold it before I fixed it.
General comfort - I guess I could have used a better seat, but overall the comfort is bad over rough terrain. I ran the tires at 2psi but it is rough riding. The position you sit in has a lot to do with it. Six or eight wheels definately gives a better ride.
Price - The VA-6 sells for over $8000 and you can buy a top of the line Max IV 900-T for less than that.
I sold my Terra Jet and Polaris quad to buy a new Max II. I like everything about my Max more than any other ATV I have owned. I liked my TJ a lot but if I had the choice between TJ or Max, it would be Max for sure. It fits my riding style much better. |

BRANDON; thank you for the testimonial on the Terra-Jet VA-6. I found it very informative and I agree that everyone has a different riding style.
I don't think that the Jet would be a bad purchase, considering it was relatively low maintinance and a real tough vehicle.
It aslo has a lot of customizing possibilities on the inside and out.

JUST A LITTLE BIT LONGER! The COOT people will be opening their own web site, photos, and even a CD will be available to the public. The formal release is only in a few more weeks. The very day I get the big information, I will post it immeadiately.
Then the world will know the truth!
I did ask what the Hp is -- 2001 COOT is 16hp, but the machine can easily take the Kohler Command 25hp (but not necessary).

OK Billy and all the others...
The Terra-Jet is a hard working machine, easy to mecanic and every thing, but...
The real hard time is to get time to play with it.
I am restauring two Jets in Québec, Canada.
I Will have new pics soon on my terra-Jet page called "Terra-Jet Québec" or "Terre des Jets" (Earth of Jets, I changed the name after a letter from LARRY the AMERICAN MAN (TERRA-JET U.S.A)
Me and my brother will finish the restauration of one of the two TERRA MACHINES.
They will be modified a bit to challange the 72 Acers of terrain in the wood we have...
I can tell you in advance they will be called "HUM-JET".

I sent away for information on their product line about 2 months ago, and I'm still waiting. I'm also not sure what their vehicles are like anyway.
