i found this late 70s max on a site PLEAS help me to find out weather i should fork the cash or not! this is what the add reads "Here is a mid to late 70's Max Northway model, that is very clean & all original. It sports a 20 h.p., 2 stroke, JLO Rockwell engine: with T-20 skid-steer transmission with: F-N-R. This unit is fully steerable in Reverse, as some 6-wheelers were not. Has rimmed tires with super wide tread, for high floation in bog, muck, snow, etc. Very low PSI Ground pressure. Goes just about anywhere. This machine is very fast at 35-40 m.p.h. Has plenty of power, engine runs excellant. Lower body tub has no cracks, upper tub has 3 small cracks. Has Electric start with recoil backup. New battery just installed within weeks. Charging system works, all lights work, transmission is very smooth & tight, tires are in good condition with some cracking developing. This machine is very dependable, always starts, runs, operates well." Find out if the chains have been replaced, if not, you can figure on that because of use and age, has the belt been replaced, bearings, ect.? Ask more questions, most importantly, PRICE. |

If you could pick it up for 1000 to 1500 it would be worth it. That way if you have to re-power it, you'll end end with a good machine for around 2 grand. Which is about the going rate for a machine of that age. |

it just got this back from the seller Hi Scott, Ok, first the questions: 1. The thing on the grill says Northway. Its a metal plate that was put there by the manufacturer. Its faded on the top, but it does say northway on the bottom. 2. Its a JLO 295 3. Absolutely nothing--will have pic showing this 4. Yes, there is light rust on the frame 5. The tires are original 6. The tranny is not jerky at all. Very smooth running. Regular maint. performed 7. No it will not be re-posted on ebay Also--here is a list of recent new parts: Spark Plugs, Points, Condenser, Carburator rebuild kit, Fuel lines, dual fuel filters, headlights--see pics, chains, choke cable, throttle cable. Needs: New drain plugs--(boat plugs) Thats it |

Check this out on E-Bay. A 2002 ARGO ATV CENTAUR/ARGO 8X8 for $4,000.00 Do you think I should buy. Shades of Nigeria. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2444385760&category=6726 I bit and this was the response. Hello, John I received your email regarding the atv I have for sale on eBay. Some words about how the deal will be handled: The atv will be either picked up or delivered from Italy. If delivered I will use Lufthansa Airplane Cargo insured in 3 days from the departure or FedEx and they will deliver it in 3 days at your door. Will be delivered in best conditions in a crate. I will pay all the fees and insurance too. For the moment I am in Torino where I have supplied capital for the purchase of a bankrupt store's stock that sold quads and other vehicles new or used. Now I am trying to sell the remaining stock. I want to sell them fast so that I can get my money back and maybe earn some more than I have paid for all the stock. All the manuals and the original documentation are in English. Made for US market and have US specs on it. All emissions tests are succesfully passed. You will the atv along with all papers and receipts that you need in order to register it on your name. You will receive the title, keys, owner manual... Being the fact that I am over here and I cannot use my credit cards and bank account and other instruments that we usually use for payment we can only accept as form of payment the money order. Mail soon and let me know if you are interested in knowing more details about this purchase. Please hurry back with an answer if interested. Thanks |

The only way I would do this, is if it was in my front yard and THEN he gets his money!!!! Lots of scams on Ebay with ATV's in other countries!!! I don't know if this is one of them, but sure makes you wonder??? |

Sounds to good to be true I would be afraid you could be taken for a ride and not in an argo either.Like I have been told if it sounds to good to be true then it is.If you do it try to protect yourself some way don't count on ebay only even if they do protect you than your money may be tied up for some time and you may find another good deal and not be able to get that one. |

NEVER buy a "to good to be true" ATV on ebay! The scams on that site are endless. The vehicle is always overseas and once that money order is mailed, your money will be gone and you'll never see that Argo. |

IMO--I would not buy that unless I personally went over to inspect it (about $600 in airline tickets) and make sure it is on the plane coming back over to the states before you leave. You would still save money going over there and checking it out and helping load it onto the plane before you dish out your money. You could easily tie up $20,000+ buying one of these brand new here in the states. Another thing that sounds fishy to me is the bit on the payment-I can't think of a reason why you could not use a bank transfer that would not be released until the machine was in the hands of a shipper (documented for proof--traking numbers from the shipper). There is no way I would send the guy a money order until the machine was in my hands. This sounds too good to be true to me. If you are really serious I would spend another $900 or so and go over to Italy on a nice vacation and help him load it up and ship it before I gave up my $4000. You might also want to check on any costs that might be associated with customs-importing an item like the Argo. Let us know if you decide to buy it. |

Run like hell. If you want to send someone $4000 and expect to get a machine sent from Italy, you might as well pay me $4000 dollars for my old ATTEX. My machine is worth less than that , but at least you would have something to show for the $4000 money order!!!! |

Run away screaming! If it’s not a con Ill eat my hat! I’ve received several emails from Italy lately on Ebay items that are obvious cons, One even stole all the info and pictures from another Ebay item I had once bid on months before and redid it a little to meet his requirements. Wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t the same thing. Just my opinion but I would steer clear. Tim Wafer |

Jbc, Don't send them any money. Its a scam. I'm an Argo dealer from Maine. I made a few calls on this. Seems this is not the first time this machine has been for sale on ebay. I know of one person who sent a deposit on this machine and that was the last he ever saw of his money. That Centaur would have sold new last year in the vicinity of $27,000.00 to $30,000.00 with the diesel engine. If this was on the level, he could call any Argo dealer in the world and get 4 times what he is asking on ebay. |

CAUTION: We almost got stuck on this one about 2 week ago. The guy was from Italy and wanted us to send him the money through Wester Union and send it in a family members name then after we received the 8X8 we would call and change the name on the account to his. Western Union talked us out of it. The lady told me word for word what the guy was trying to get us to do. She said there is a lot of that going on in Italy and Bolgaria right now. This guy also had two quads for sale.As soon as we e-mailed the guy and told him what Western Union said he pulled everything off ebay and there was no record of any of it. We found the exact 8X8 for sale throuh ATV trader in Florida for $6500,it appeared that he copied every thing from that site and used it. We just looked and the 8X8 has been sold but you will find the quad he has for sale now in ATV trader on the second page. All I can say is be carefull. The guy was not willing to take our money in any way that it could be traced. We would have lost it all. |

I notified Ebay of this and just recieved this reply. Tim Wafer "Hello, Thank you for taking the time to write to us with your concerns. I am happy to assist you further. Hello Everyone, When you see those awesome deals on E-bay, for an international purchase and transaction for an ATV or any thing else. Just send them an E-mail stating that you will only do the deal, if the seller ships the unit using a reputable known international freight forwarding broker and shipping company. And when the goods are in the U.S.A. in the posession of the international freight forwarding broker and shipping company, then you will personally inspect, take ownership/delivery at that point, and pay the freight handling broker for the transaction. I have done a lot of international business and work over the years, and this is how we have handled some dealings. Thanks Gary |

gammaguy, Check RI's web site and see if you have a dealer close. If you buy the repair manual, you can take the manual and the t-20 to an ag shop or small engine repair place and they can repair it for you. The T-20 is really pretty easy and straight forward to work on. |

Gamma Richard Clark owner of this site that you are using, has all t-20 parts in stock most at MUCH less prices than RI therefore his prices are less than dealers too. you should check with him 812-944-1643 He can also fix it for you, but they are easy to work on. You can email me and I will tell you of a few places not to send it, as they tried to sell me stuff I did not need. sam7252@yahoo.com Sam Preston
