I would like to add some extra cargo room on my MAX IV. I am playing with idea of using one of
these Hitch-Haulers you see on the back of SUV's, the ones that go in the receiver hitch. I it thought that might be possible to attach it to the engine cover by bolting it to existing holes where the rivets that hold the screen in. Any comments, suggestions, ideas??? Thanks in advance. Ron

the engine cover is held down by rubber straps. if you attach a rack to the cover it may not be stable. when you hit bumps the rubber will stretch and let the rack and cover bounce up and down or shift around. this could cause problems down the road. the extra weight may cause the bottom edges of the cover to wear grooves in the body. i dont have any extra weight on my cover and it shows some signs of minor wear.

if you dont have a bumper on your max you may want to consider building one. i used 1 1/2x2 angle to build mine. it will open up all kinds of doors to mounting stuff on your max.

The hitch hauler is a great idea. However I did it somewhat diferently>Iused a rack from BassPro shops P/N21-801-685-00 @$79.99 I only used the rack & Brace, not the 2" receiver bar. Turn over the rack, so that the double rails face front, I mounted this rack on a max2, align the rack on the front hood of max2, use the gas cap button as a guide for center.drill two 1/4"holes into max to attach the half rings to the dash, the half ring will be about 1"right of heater switch.Turn over the steel brace, and bolt to the front of the rack, drill hole in rack to accept bolt. align the brace with two bolts on max that hold gas tank, and drill two holes in brace or it could be mounted by bending brace, and using the holes in brace, and driling two holes in max near head lites,in order to bend brace cut a notch in metal with hack saw orcut off saw, be areful not to cut through brace, if you have a welder, weld notch closed. This is a really neat rack, there are holes in rack for gun brackets, and there is space between the front rails for a fishing rod case from Dicks sporting @19.99

you can purchase a cement mixing tub at either Lowes or Home depot the larger one, cost about $12.00 fits nicely in the rear cargo area of the MAX2, if you are fussy you can cover the rails with foam pipe insulation, get two of them for a top and bottom and make hinges from heavy wire ties, and you have a dry storage area.

A lot of people overlook the front of a max4 as a place for a rack.I bought some old style s-10 running boards from a swap meet(diamond plate mat'l).Cut 1 to width ,just alittle past head light, used cushion tape and bolted it to body using 2 1/4-20's with backers, ran 2 supports down to bolting that joins body halves.Cut out for gas cap!Took the other board cut to lenght to match, removed the side with the double bend, place over other board ,drilled holes so I can adjust it out towards front of machine,in full extended mode I can carry a 5 gal. gas can, pushed in it is approx.1'' shorter inword than the front bumper in this position I never had a problem with rough or aggressive trail rides.Sorry I can't send pic, I 'm working on the road I'll take a pic when I get home and post it or e-mail it to anybody interested.I also stood on this rack to adjust guy ropes without damage.
