Next week I'm traveling to New York for a business vacation. I'll be visiting the Max factory for the first time and bringing back a pile of new toys. It looks like it will be 850 miles from my home in Missouri. I plan to make the 13 hour trip in one day. I can't wait till Monday to take off. Meeting the guys at RI will be awesome and I'll bring the camcorder to record all the new Maxs being made. I also plan to visit Niagra Falls which is only about twenty minutes from the factory. I will spend at least a day there so I'll have time to teach Galen how to sell a Max and Jay to sell parts (haha). I'll try to get lots of good video of the adventure at the Max factory. If it turns out well I wouldn't mind sending some copies to those who want to see the greatest ATV on the planet being built. There might even be some footage on there of me going over Niagra Falls in a Max. I will be bringing back several Maxs including a new 27hp Kawasaki Max IV in camo. I can't wait to see this machine and I'll have lots of pictures posted. Unfortunately I can't bury it in a mud hole but I'll give a full review on everything else. Maybe even a side by side race agaist the 25hp Kohler Max IV. That one will be brown so that color difference could make one faster... It should be a fun experience. I'll leave Monday and post all about it as soon as I'm rested up from all the driving later that week. MaxRules |

That sounds cool. Are you planning on making the Rockport ride? |

Brandon, you made the trip a couple weeks too late. You should have come to the Copper Ridge ride for the weekend and then drove to Buffalo. Or vice-versa. |

Brandon- Contact me when you are in town and we can find some places to get that new Max muddy. I am right off the interstate 1 hour south of Buffalo. The Ledges ride this weekend is also right off the interstate, perhaps you could join us there. |

Wow what a great trip! We left early Monday morning and made it to Buffalo at about 9pm that night. Mapquest was right with the 850 miles and thirteen hours. We stayed at the Holiday Inn right there in Buffalo. It was a real nice place with a hot tub, swimming pool, and fitness center. There was also a nice restaurant next door and I got the most expensive cheeseburger I've ever bought at $7.20. Ouch... haha. Tuesday I drove a few blocks over to Recreatives. It was cool to finally meet the people I have been talking to on the phone for years. Galen (my salesman) showed me around and I met Sid and talked with him for a while. Sid is the original owner that started the company. Galen gave a tour of the factory and I got it all on the camcorder. Joe was there on the assembly line, I met him back in 2001 at the Badlands ride. The factory is set up real nice and seems organized and well run. It isn't overly large since it is an assembly plant but there is plenty of room to roll out lots of Maxs. Galen told me they even own the land behind the factory so they can expand some day when the economy picks up again. I have to give RI some credit for dealing with hard times while still improving their products. I saw a few test vehicles with some nice improvements. A new cargo rack for the front of the Max II is now available and is really nice. They also had a super cool brush gaurd for the II. A camo Max had some black rims and a black roll bar that looked real nice. Galen said these should be available by fall if all goes well. I then got to meet Jay who takes care of the parts department and is the current owner of Recreatives. He is a real cool guy and someone I like dealing with. That about wrapped up the tour and Galen took us out to lunch. When we got back to the factory, we loaded three Maxs on my trailer so they would be ready to go in the morning. I parked the trailer and Maxs in the factory and my friend and I took off to Niagra Falls. It was only about 20 miles away and it was a sight to see. We spent a few hours walking around and then went over the Rainbow Bridge to Canada. We had a great time and I got some good video of the Falls with the camcorder. Wednesday morning came to quick and the fun was just about over. We went back to the factory and loaded the fourth Max in the bed of my truck and hooked up to the trailer. While finishing up the paper work, a man from Canada was there talking to Galen about Maxs. He recognized my name from Route 6x6 and we got to chat for a while without a keyboard. It was getting late already and we had to head for Missouri. The Powerstroke pulled the load of Maxs with no effort and made that long trip look easy. I made it home at 1:30 Thursday morning with no problems. I have pics of the vehicles posted on my website and the factory tour pics will follow soon. I had a great time and would like to thank the guys at RI for everything. |
