Has anyone every pondered making a skid plate for the max II? My friend has one on his argo and it has saved us more than once from doing considerable damage to the underside. It would certainly be a pisser if the first time I take my machine out and crunch it. I'm just wondering if anyone has thought of ways to make a skid plate for the MaxII.

thanks
Bri

I made a full steel skid plate for my Max II. It was very heavy duty and I tore it off in less than ten minutes. Funny how these 'plastic' bodies are tougher than steel.
I have run my Max II through and into everything on the trails and it has no damage. Maybe some scratches here and there, but those just give it character.
I've seen an Argo Bigfoot and a Honda crash head on into each other (man that was awesome). The Honda's "tougher" metal was smashed in and did considerable damage. The Argo didn't even get scratched.
I was over protective of my Max when I first got it like you are. After you put some time on it you will see how tough it is.

an old lower body from a max can be used as a skid plate, you can peal plenty of plastic off your lower body on rocks, holes and tears are not inposable,RI should offer skid plates as there vehicles are SO thin, (havent had any rocks riping plastic from your max?, well go riding with tim okeefe, he will show you some nice trails that WILL tear your under body up nicely)
his argo bigfoot is impervios to the rocks

david berger.

I own a MAX and an argo I split the argo wide open the 3rd time I rode it. I have ridden the MAX over the exact same spot at least a hundred times. I will never run the argo over that spot ever again, it's too damn expensive. By the way I am talking about huge piles of rough broken concrete.

I really like both vehicles but the MAX has a major advantage being 6 wheel drive and lighter than the argo. Other that the body on the argo and the hassle in getting the parts to replace the body I haven't had any other problems with either vehicle.

Hello guys...
I bought my ARGO BIGFOOT in march of this year and I have put over 210 hrs on it already, I changed the oil every 50hrs and greese every 25hrs.
I have rammed and knocked over trees up to 21/2 3 inches thick, climbed over logs that almost flipped me over came real close to this ... I'm going on my replaceing my 3rd RAWHIDE lll tire.. You know I am Blind and you should see the things I have hit and ran over. In al reality I shouldn't even have one with the abuse I give it... I have dropped down over 3ft clifs and didn't see the drop off. ouch. it hurt
gone places where no quod or 4x4 truck or jeep could go and did it just to prove a point that 6 is better then 4... I have bounced between rocks and trees like a pin ball at full speed. my Son and Daughter thought I was hurt but I was laughing like heck. Nerver bent any axles or ruined any bearings. all though I expect to with the vbision that I have... I'm kinda like Tim when we get out we go doesn't mater what is in front of us. we go over it. or through it...
I live in dense woods and rocks clifs and swamps in Maine. this terrain is a challenge for any thing on wheels... I tried to Jump my BIGFOOT acrossed a stream,,,, What a mistake that was These bigfoots are heavy in the front. but I had to do it... WAMB right into a nice sharp rock that put a dent in my winch plate but no holes in the body at all this is one tough mechine... I don't think I will put a hole in it for many years to come....
I just thought I would put my 2 cents in ... . got board reading...
ride safe

Big Bob
I asked Richard C. about skid plates for the Max. I know he has them but the thing is they only protect either the front or the read..leaving the middle exposed..unlike on an argo whose skid plate runs the entire length of the underside. Something a max should have as well.

I have a set of ATV plans from Edge.
They show the drive chain ( 650cc motorcycle engine coupled to a Datsun diff etc.)but how does one go about reverse gear? I know the unit can turn in its own lenght but...There are no ATV's here in Aus for us to reference to. Any suggestions?

Dave,
Have you used a lower Max body for a full skid plate?. Do you know the approximate cost of the lower tub?

Brandon,
If you made a metal skid plate and ripped it off 10 minutes after use, then it would seem that you either didn't connect it high enough on the body or the metal you used was not thick enough to deal the damage it would take.

thanks
Bri

I've taken out 2 skid plates on my Max II springer. Not because I don't know what I'm doing, but because I love to ride fast when I can. Or maybe it is because I don't know what I'm doing. HMMMM Anyway, I've had my third skid plate on for a lot of years. Think it's 1/4" plate. It's been great.

I think this is the third skid plate.
Because it has the purple butterfly on it.
It doesn't look as nice today.
