I am wondering if anyone knows of an aftermarket source for true dual exhausts for the Briggs & Stratton Vangard? I would like to run a seperate pipe for each cylinder so that my motor can breathe a little easier. I'd also like to set my engine up this way so that I can reroute the exhausts to keep them inside the body and have the tips point out the back, like the MAX IV and new 20hp MAX II.

I think this would be a good idea to quiet the motor down and keep the pipes and mufflers from rusting away. I just discovered that the elbow bend on my present external MAX II exhaust has developed a hole and is starting to get really LOUD!! This inside/dual system should eliminate that mess. I just need to know where to start looking for the pieces to get it done. Any names, web addresses or phone numbers would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone else done this mod, by the way?? Thanks.

harry, super trapp* makes a nice tunable muffler. rental stores supply a pipe bender. pipe can be bought from a metal supermarket. you can drill out and use your existing exhaust flanges. it will be nice to custom bend it to fit your application. even dirty harry should have known!

I was prepared to "Do-It-Yerself" if it came down to that, but if someone out there made a ready-to-go kit, then I would've bought it, if only to bolt it on go without the hassle of creating a Frankenstein of my own. No prob. Time to roll up my sleeves, I guess!

I was going to take the muffler off my Max but I can't figure out how to detach it from the flex pipe. I want it to be easily reattachable for when I ride in a ORV park that requires a muffler. Does anyone know how to get it apart? I am told you can get about 20% more horsepower.

BRANDON- JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I FOLLOWED YOUR ADVICE AND CHANGED THE PLUGS ON MY 99 MAX II 18 HP TO THE BOSCH +4 AND ALSO CHANGED THE OIL TO A SYNTHETIC. THE PLUGS REALLY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN SMOOTHER IDLEING AND BETTER THROTTLE RESPONSE, AND HOPEFULLY COOLER ENGINE OPERATING TEMPERATURES WITH THE SYNTHETIC. I ALSO REPLACED THE AIR CLEANER WITH A K&N FILTER. THANKS FOR THE TIPS!
ON THE SUBJECT OF MUFFLERS, I THINK YOU CAN HEAT THE FLANGE ON THE MUFFLER WITH A TORCH AND SLIP THE FLEX PIPE OUT, I'LL BE CHECKING INTO THAT REPAIR SOON BECAUSE MY FLEX PIPE DEVELOPED A LEAK AND I NEED TO GET A NEW REPLACEMENT FROM RI.
DO YOU KNOW IF THE REPLACEMENT COMES WITH THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ATTACHED, LOOKS LIKE ITS MADE PERMANENTELY ATTACHED TO THE MANIFOLD.
WE WENT RIDING AT THE COAST IN THE OREGON DUNES YESTERDAY AND HAD A GREAT TIME UNTIL MY THROTTLE LEVER JUST BUSTED APART. DOES RI MAKE A STEEL THROTTLE LEVER REPLACEMENT OR DO I NEED TO ORDER THE ORIGINAL PLASTIC UNIT THAT MOUNTS ON THE RIGHT STEERING LEVER? KNOW OF ANY AFTERMARKET REPLACEMENTS THAT MIGHT WORK BETTER LIKE AT A MOTORCYCLE OR ATV PARTS SHOP? BEING A MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, THE DUNES WERE LOADED WITH ATVS, QUADS, SAND RAILS, FOUR WHEELDRIVES AND ONLY ONE MAXII(TRUE 6WD) AATV-MINE! UNTIL MY THROTTLE ASSEMBLY BROKE, WE HAD A GREAT TIME AS I HAD THE ENTIRE SHORELINE TO MYSELF AS ALL THE OTHER VEHICLES STAYED AWAY FROM THE WATERLINE. I WAS ABLE TO CROSS SMALL POOLS OF WATER AND RIDE ON SMALL REMOTE ISLANDS OF SAND AS THE LOW TIDE WAS IN, WE PICKED UP A HALF DOZEN OR MORE PERFECT SAND DOLLARS. QUAD DRIVERS ARE ALWAYS CURIOUS AND GIVE THE THUMBS UP WHEN THEY SEE A TRUE ATV, JUST WISH I HAD THE SPEED THEY DO. SOMEDAY I MAY DO AN ENGINE REBUILD LIKE YOU DID OR MAYBE AN ENGINE SWAP. THANKS----LARRY

as for the throttle lever, I took an old snowmobile brake lever and mounted it on mine, it is bigger and is made of metal. It also used the same cable.

Glad you like the mods Larry. I will attemp to take apart my exhaust tomorrow and see how it sounds after that.
I have heard of way too many throttle levers breaking. It is past time RI does something about this. If you order from RI, they only have the plastic ones. I see many similar throttles on jet skis like Sea-Doo. My Doo has a similar looking throttle that would probably work on the Max.
