I bought the edge plans in hopes of being able to build a 6x6 but they were not detailed enough. I have decided to make my own plans using a couple of ideas off the edge plans. I have already drawn the top view of the frame. I could use any and all help or ideas that you guys might have.

One day I was reading some of the past messages that have been posted about building your own Amphib,,and I found a good website of some one who had built his own.
He was in the very same situation as you are now,,,"not enough detailed instructions" so he and a friend of his,,helped him to build an Amphib, to his own specifications, just like you plan now to do.
It turned really good for a first time effort. He used the frame and axles from a junked out Max II,,and then bought new wheels, tires and chains.
He had a friend of his, build him an all aluminum body, using the junk Max II body as a template,,but,,he had his friend build it to Max IV dimensions. ( longer ) but,,only a a two seater
You can veiw this home made Amphib at this website

I have decieded to use a subura or Hyundia motor and auto tranny but am still not quite sure how I will put it all together. I will also have to use a rear axle from a 4 wheeled atv. This should be short enough. Once again if you guys have any ideas I could sure use them.

Cruiser,
Take a look at Wazza's homebuilt 6x6 ATV at http://members.iinet.net.au/~dph/atv.htm
It looks like it's pretty solid and could take a pounding off-road.

Steve, how many horses does he have in that beast. That thing looks like it would fly through the bush. May even overpower ATTEX's highest model that could go 60 mph or something like that. What is his e-mail?/ I want to get in touch with him.

I am still fiddling with my design. What I want to do is get rid of the chains, and develop a 2/6 wheel drive system as well as 4 wheel steering switchable to skid steer. I love skid steer but it's too power robbing on hard surfaces. A suspension is my ultimate goal but there's so much to add to the design. I haven't had time to do much lately. The engine should remain in the body, but the frame will be outside as well as inside. The bad thing is that my machine may weigh over 800 pounds, but hopefully this will not keep me out of the mud. One unusual idea I have had is an electrically operated drive system but I doubt that high-tech could work well off road. It's so hard to keep a low center of gravity and be amphibious and have a suspension. I do think that a new design could save the six wheeler. if they can sell John Deere six wheelers for use on fields and golf courses, why couldn't we use an AATV instead? I am still working on my baloon tires too, what remains will have to be seen.

I would like to know what features you would like to see in a new body design made from HDPE.
lots of people talk about building the ultimate ATV. So If some one could supply a body at a reasonable price you could build your own frame use your own engine etc. to suit yourself.
Length? width? height? Position & shape of headlights?,tail lights?,best all around hitch?,
hand holds?,foot braces?,seating bench or buckets? 2 or 4 passenger or do you really need a 4 passenger? how often do you really have more than 2 people in your atv? or would you rather have a 2 passenger with more storage room and possibly attach a couple extra seats if needed in the cargo area? front or rear engine? Thickness of upper & lower body? And any other suggestions I haven`t thought of. Reply to H_N_H@msn.com or post here thanks.
