I'll cast another vote for the Chariot from T.V.'s "Lost in Space" as the dream AATV. No real or imagined vehicle in any situation ever met the incredible challenges the Chariot did. A couple of points overlooked in previous posts include:

The Chariot's range is virtually unlimited, because it's driven by electricity generated by whatever means is presently most convenient: the sun, an on-board atomic reactor, or an engine that sips from a compact pressurized fuel pack (space-propane?). (Drive carefully though, because it's main generator fuses can blow if you accidently run into giant electric tumbleweeds.)

The Chariot is incredibly rugged, built to withstand not only the pressures of space, but also whirlpools, tidal waves, volcanoes, meteor showers, the blows of boulders thrown by one-eyed giants, and the weight of spiders the size of Greyhound busses.

The Chariot's onboard scanners let the driver navigate by the stars (assuming of course, he knows WHICH stars), find shelter for the night, and locate live nude space girls. (Don't remember that? Three words: Debbie the Bloop).

Anyway, the Chariot was actually a highly customized Snow-Cat. Sometime after the show was cancelled in the summer of '68, it was sold to a California ski resort who used it for what it was originally intended: grooming the slopes and trails. Can you imagine? Anyway, the custom superstructure and windows were getting beat up, so most of it was removed and put into storage. Many years later, a fan of the show recognized it (while skiing?). He bought it and began restoration, but I'm afraid I don't know how far he got. Maybe we'll see the chariot again some day soon, but my guess would be at an Autorama or museum, not the Humphrey ride! :)

Thanks for the additional info on the "L I S" AATV. Now ... if we can just figure a way to get some rich oil shiek to fund the round up of a little plutonium to refuel the reactor ... pick up a couple of ruby's for the Laser Cannons ... and ... find some shapely females to sit in the back seats and tell us when we are lost ... we'll have the ultimate AATV (Grin)

hi guys, i'm a newer aatv convertee. i am trying to design an electric hub motors aatv. i have been in contact with a design eng. in Hong Kong who makes the hub motors. i have an amphicat and a half...LOL . any input for design minimums would be helpfull. ie: ground clearance, electric essentials and options that would be useful for dedicated riders. looks like the dude from h.k. is going to help design a regulater for 6 wheels. this could be a hot product if i can get it going. so post anything you may think would be in the ultimate machine. power and torque are no problem. waterproof to....bobbyc
