For what it's worth, the first and only time I have ever posted to the 6x6 site was on August 2, 2001. Today, August 7, 2001, I received an e-mail with the title of "6 wheeler info", or something to that effect. The text contained the recent one liner indicating that my advice was needed by the sender and info was attached. I assumed that it was the most recent virus going around and deleted it immediately. Since I have posted no 6 wheeler questions anywhere else, I assume someone (or some virus program) is harvesting e-mail addresses off the 6x6 site and sending the virus out to posters. Because the subject line contained a specific reference to 6 wheelers, it would seem that the intent was to deliberately infect the 6x6 list posters specifically. Beware!!!

i too got a email with the text my advice was needed and the info was attached. i knew this was prob a virus or phonecharge scam so i deleted it.it did not have any 6x6 reference but i too wonder if my email info was retrieved from route 6x6.hope we don't have to worry about any continuing attempts. as always if you get a email attachment from someone you do not know be safe and delete that email.

after more research i found out the email i got was the sircam virus going around right now on the web. the beginning will say "hi how are you?"
the end will say "see you later." the middle will say something like "need your advice here is the info." if you get this email DO NOT DOWNLOAD OR OPEN THE ATTACHMENT!if you need more info go to www.zdnet.com and search for info on the sircam virus.

Yep that virus has been going around for a while now. It has really started to bug me also because I seem to get about 10-15 e-mails a day containing this virus with all different types of subject lines. Norton has been keeping my system clean though but what a PIA! I have no idea who any of these people are.

I got the same VIRUS LETTER. My virus protection program prevented any nasty problems.
Mr. Tinker, you got this one pegged!!! You're right on the money.
There's one problem though:
I think that someone has specifically targeted all of us on Route6x6. The letter is titled [Do you know your 6x6?] That's way too specific for it to just be an internet virus. Any thoughts?

6x6 Friends:
Yes there is a major virus going around the web, it has nothing
to do with 6x6 or its readers.
It has:
Subject: Can be any topic, usually one line
Two Attachments: 1) Usually one TEXT file
2) and some other file
Be sure you delete any such email from anyone.
Keep in mind that person who "sent" it to you, did not............
What I mean is, that the virus is sending itself.
DO NOT OPEN THE FILES

This virus has affected almost everything on the internet. One of the quad forums that I visit often has been shut down for several days because of the Code Red virus. I got the "I need your advise" message several times. One time it was titled something about a Terra Jet. I still get that "Hahaha" virus also. I don't know where it gets the subject line. I don't think there is a person on here sending this virus out. It is a 'worm' that uses email addresses all over the net and the subject might come from a random sentence found on this board.

Hi everyone. Well at least we are in good company. We've been receiving the messages also. They've showed up in several different forms. Roger just ran a viral scan on ours this morning. It just keeps bouncing back in a new form. Your right. Don't open them. I even had a message bounced to a person I don't even know that had used a couple of names that I have only typed while on 6x6. I've heard that there is a virus that is supposed to kick off on a certain date in Sept and wipe out all our files, but I wasn't given the date. Anyone know anything about that. One thing about it, we'll all be reworking our computer systems at the same time. I don't think we can do this without needing to go through a 12 step withdrawal program. What'll we do for our entertainment. I wish us all good luck.
