Years ago I saw a photo of a ATV using the tri-wheel setup like the vehicle in the movie "Damnation Alley". It had two axles, and 6 wheels per side, but only 8 total were in contact with the ground at any one time. On each axle was three wheels in a triangle configuation, two on the ground and a third at the 'peak' of the triangle.
The advantage was that when traction was poor, the "hub" would lock and the entire three wheel set would spin on the slipping axel. The hub would 'walk' over obsticals like rocks or fallen trees.
Also, in the water the wheels would behave more like a paddlewheel.

General Information pages 1,3, and 7 to help some people find it faster. It seems to be in a class with that big 24x24 Grizzley. I bet nothing would stop it.

The "Terrastar" is also in the Multi Machines article in Memory Lane. Anybody actually seen one in person?
