Does anyone know if any place that sells both the MAX IV and CONQUEST did any head to head testing?

Is there such a place?

Has there been any actual tesing going head to head buy any group?

I hate to be dragging this out, but 8,000.00 to 15,000.00 is alot of money for me and I want the best for my money!

Thanks for your HELP
Harpy

Harpy, which is better, a Toyota Camry or an F250? Yes, it is a lot of money, but which is better depends not only on the machine but on what you need it to do.

There is no comparison. Two totally different machines. Compare a dual wheel dual axle stake truck with a pick-up truck. Two different purposes.

I spoke to a distributor of the MAX in Quebec who is also an argo dealer. He has tested both vehicles head to head and likes the MAX better. His phone number is 819-985-2400. His company is Sport Moto Thurso, ask for Philip Mallet.

If you look on the "LINKS" page on the site under
"Dealers", find Leslies Used Cars. It says they sell both Argo and Max.

If your looking for a great deal on the Max call Quad Cities Max at 319-323-3082. The fellow I bought mine from was upfront with his prices and very helpful. His name is Brad and he knew alot about both vehicles, the Max and the Argo.

I also talked to the fellow at Quad Cities Max and ended up buying a Max from him. Not only the lowest price but he was upfront and very informative. If your thinking about buying a six wheeler I would recomend this company to anybody.

You're comparing apples to oranges. I own a Argo 8 and I do all the things you want to do. If you want the best, price should be no object. The conquest is the best thing out there don't let anyone tell you diffrent. Remember don't compromise because the max is a little cheaper, there is a reason for it, get an Argo!!!
Let us know what you buy

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By matthew smith on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I would not call it comparing apples to oranges,I would call it comparing maxes and the argos,my maxIv 900T I was very impressed of what it was able to do any thing it was a maximum performer,I have tried an argo! they are to front heavy with a snow blade,if an argo tried to pull this car out of the ditch one side wound spin, half ice and snow the other half was on a dry surface, you needed both sides driving to get them out! also the max is well balanced with the engine in the rear and the blade up front,I would call it compromise!I would call it over priced for getting less, engine heat in the summer and exhaust fumes in the face, thats whey they put exhaust pipes on cars, you are free to buy what you like, you like the argo I love the max, it is the machine for me,as for the best machine out there my vote is for the max-imum machine hands down the winner!!!matt ps I invited machines to the river bottom games, but no one showed up.

Mathew Smith, How can a MAX be so stable in the water when the engine is off set in the rear???You have to adjust your weight in the machine to keep it level! Does a Max even have an outboard motor bracket and support? From the factory or do you have to put on an after market product? and if so if you put on an after market product, is your warranty valid still from the factory? As far as pulling a vehicle out of a ditch, that all depends on the operator of the machine ANY MACHINE!! As far as price differences put the machines side by side look at the thickness of the bodies, look at the quality of workmanship, of both. There is no comparison the ARGO RULES!You get what you pay for!

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Martin on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I think each of these machines has its own unique abilities that make it more capable than the other one in particular areas (engine location, transmission type, weight, swimming ability, tire size, operator position, etc..) it all just depends on which one or more of these areas you need the machine to perform the best in. Different types of riding require different setups on types of machines to perform the best. I think it is safer to say 6X6s and 8X8s RULE! (At least in the muddy terrain where there seems to be no bottom)

Hate to be a total kill joy but....If you live 20 miles from a Max dealer and 200 miles away from an Argo dealer...the choice should be for the Max... Having a dealer in close distance is VERY important in keeping your machine up and running.
BUT if THAT is not a factor...I would go with the Conquest by Argo. First of all, the Max can carry only 4 people, where the Conquest can carry 6. Assuming you need the FOUR corner tires intact to keep going, you can afford 2 flats on the Max vs 4 on the Argo. Water cooled engines like the Conquest do much better out here in Nevada, an air cooled engine in 105 degree temps just can not cut it. But on the other hand (back to the first argument) if you got five guys around who can help you fix a Max (and you will need them) vs none that can help with the Argo...then go with the local favorite...nothing like having a buddy with the same machine to help tow you out...

Hey John Martin, are you a POLITICIAN? I would call your reply a SPIN TACTIC,as you say in your reply though 6X6s & 8X8s RULE! By the way does MAX make an 8X8? What really bother's me,is when you put a MAX next to an ARGO and look them both over, the QUALITY of the material and of the workmanship the ARGO WIN'S with no exception's.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Martin on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I guess in your case heather, quality is in the eye of the beholder. I run Max machines and are very happy with them, and I don't feel I have to badmouth an ARGO because I think a MAX is better. You ask "How can a MAX be so stable in the water when the engine is off set in the rear???" The MAX VI is stable in the water and is fast with the 26" tires and 25HP motor, it is alot faster than the MAX II. That is just like me asking is a ARGO 8X8 not front heavy, the engine, tranmission and the operator are all up front, What is holding the back end down in the water, you add ballast or something???? (you don't need to answer that question for me) To me it doesn't really matter how well it swims just as long as it can swim! I don't want to knock anybodies' machine that spent that kind of money on one of these AATVs but an ARGO and MAX are set up differently(8 tires vs. 6 tires, etc..) and work better in certain areas than the other would. I'm happy that you like the QUALITY of your machine soo much. I'm happy with mine too, and when I'm not I modify it to suit my needs. I'm not a politician, I'm a satisfied AATV rider, are you a ARGO 8X8 salesman or saleswoman heather7? I don't think it is a SPIN TATIC to say that 6X6s and 8x8s AATVs rule, both are very capable and neat machines and for the price should rule.

Personally I like attex. But that's just my opinion. :)

Dear John Martin;I apoligize for the way my last message came out,I do agree with you,and I apoligize, the only reason I wrote what I did, is there is a MAX dealer here in Michigan that at one time also had ARGO's in his showroom, and all he does is bad mouth the ARGO,I'am really sorry for stooping as low as him. 6X6's & 8X8'S RULE!

I have to go with Pete on this one!!!!

Heather-

The fellow you're referring to who has nothing good to say about Argo has his reasons. He used to sell Argo, but claims he got little or no support from the manufacturer, plus he had some unhappy Argo customers (I don't know the number, or the specifics). He says he gets MUCH better support from Recreatives, so he dropped the Argo line and went strictly with MAX. Pretty simple logic. If he rubs you the wrong way, then take your business elsewhere. If enough people don't like the man, he'll eventually be out of business - (negative word of mouth). Doesn't seem likely though, as he's the #1 dealer for MAX in the U.S. for three years.

He is very opinionated in many things - like most of us. He simply says what he thinks, rather than trying to keep both sides happy. You say he "stoops" when he badmouths the Argo. He sells MAX, so of course he's not going to have anything positive to say about Argo! Do you think an Argo-only dealer would heap praise on the MAX IV when he's trying to sell a Bigfoot?!?

-DH

P.S. Pete & Bob-
I'd love to own a 500 SuperChief so I could beat the Attex drum with ya. *SIGH* Maybe one of these days... :)

Dirty Harry: I'd sell you mine but.......well.....I like it better than my old lady.

Attex Vrs Old lady. Attex- hardly ever brakes down. Is very happy with a charged battery and some trick gas. Is loud and smelly......but I love both the noise (never used hearing protection) and smell. Takes me anywhere I want to go. If I get sick of ridding it......I just park it. If I want a new model to impress my friends....I can't have it because they are no longer made.

Old lady- Needs constant attention. Isn't happy at any time. Is loud and smelly.......the smelly I like, (she smells good) but the loud is another story (always use hearing protection to protect your sanity!!!) I have to take her anywhere she wants to go!!!! If I get sick of her.......well, I just won't go there!!!! If I want a new model to impress my friends I can't get one unless I want to be pummeled to death!!!! In short DH...I will sell you my old lady; but not my Attex!!!!

If you read this honey.........Dirty Harry must have got my password and wrote this!!!!!!

IV900... oh i wondor why a MAX DISTRUBITOR would say he likes the max better..hmmm..sounds like that opinion may be a lil biased

Bob
How much for the old lady? I could use someone to hitch up the trailer, change the oil, and make general AATV repairs. How many hours are on her? Are her axles true? Bearings and chains in good shape? Is she a 2 or 4 stroke (oops never mind, she must be 2, loud and smelly)
Just havin' fun
Russ

Heather7, Do you own an argo? and did you register on the owners list? and you are free to give your opinion, if you like argo thats ok with me, but my opinion you buy what is more capable, you don,t go out and buy an excusion for more money, when you can buy a jeep for less money an that more capable off road than an excursion, bigger or more money is not always better, I would welcome an argo against my max any time, (friendly ride) I think it would be very interesting the outcome?

Matt
I have an Argo. Come play. I have a buddy who has a max II and with the exception of straight away stretches we run right together. Everyhere he go's I go. Anywhere I go he go's.
BTW I will be at Humphrey this weekend. I'll be the one in the BIG RED EXCURSION.
Russ
