I just bought an old max 2 for my kids. (I also have an Argo Conquest) I'm looking for an owners manual and/or a service manual. I don't know what year this thing is (is there a way to tell?) It has balloon type floatation tires, is red in color. The tub is in real good shape, the upper body is so so. It has a two year old briggs 16 hp engine with low hours. I think the original engine was a JLO. It has new chains. Runs great but needs new tires. I will convert it to real tires and wheels soon. What is the maximum size tires that will fit? If any one has an old manuals lying around, I would be interested. Please let me know. Thanks

You should be able to get a manual from either R.I. (manufactuers of the Max) or Richard. The Max size tires you can fit on a Max 2 are 22",as anything bigger will rub the body (as stated by R.I.) You should have a great machine to have fun w/ your children , one word of caution though, invest in a well built roll cage & seat belts as this will be cheap insurance & money well spent! You can NEVER be too safe,especially when it comes to your "Yuuts". I spoke w/ a customer of mine a couple of weeks ago, who rolled his Max 2 over in a shallow stream,fortunately he was'nt hurt and someone happened to see it & help roll it off of him ! Don't let a fun family moment turn into a tragidy, invest in those items. Also , carry a fire extinguisher & 1st aide kit! Hope you & your "yuuts" have a blast wheelin arround the trails . see ya.

I am deciding between a Max II or IV and an Argo Bigfoot. Some of the discussions I have read on these pages refer to the Max being easier to 'modify'than the Argo. What things typically get modified?

I can not speak about modificatons to an Argo,but I do own a 2002 Max IV 900t. What I have now learned about a Max IV from owning one,is that it is VERY easy to get to the chains and sprockets,remove both front and rear floor boards and also both front and rear seats. When that is done,it then becomes VERY EASY to see and do what you plan to modify,if you care to. Such as mounting metal wire mesh baskets under both seats for carrying things. Also modifications to the T-20 transmission to make each bank of wheels turn independantly from the other side. But, the Max IV has also been modified in other ways also,I,m sure others here will comment on as well.

Are you satisfied with your Max? What kind of stuff do you put it through? I'm buying one to get in and out of the Tunica hills to my deer club when the river comes up as it has recently. Just sold my Big Bear - useless in deep water and a pain to float across the bayou on a bateau.

Yes,,I am very satisfied with my Max IV 900T. I,ve taken my Max across ponds, up long and deep creeks for about 3/4 of a mile,down very muddy jeep trails,down into creeks and up 35 degree creek banks that were length of my Max in heigth,got lost one time,and ended up blazing a trail down a pipe line for about 3 blocks,that had shoulder high weeds, bushes,and also small saplings,but the Max just mowed them all down with no trouble at all,and brought me safely back to my jeep and trailor with out scracthes. I was behind the winsheild of my Max though. ( grin )

I was like you in the past,owning only four wheelers,but now,the Max has become the ultimate ATV for me. ( big smile )

When I owned 4-wheelers,I had to always look for alternate ways around deep water sections on the trail, if I ever came to one, but now,I have no fear of sinking out of sight, like I did before when I owned 4-wheelers.

When I,m in my Max IV,I,m always looking for the most challenging trail sections to go down or cross.

A little off topic,just consider this a test post, as I'm having trouble posting in any thread. Anyway, Mudbug was talking about quads.. and I've been frequenting the allaboutmud.com forums. They started a thread of poems about the "best" quad. And I added this:

Argue the best mud quad
