TJ ... this is JT ... in Pittsburgh.
Strongly suggest you try the Allegeheny National Forest ATV trails. They have just been opened (after a hell of a lot PR and arm twisting) to OUR class of ATV. You MUST wear a helmet ... and ... have a current PA ATV decal ... BUT ... the trails are GREAT. Contact the Ranger Station at Marionville for more info & MAPS.

TJ, I have to echo JT's suggestion. The trail open now is called Timberline and is located outside Ridgway in Elk County. You can also access it from other trailheads just south of Kane and east of Marienville. If you really want to ride a nice trail and campout as opposed to trying to do the whole thing (37+ miles) in a day I recommend a camping trailride. If you enjoy camping out in the woods, this is the best way I found to do it. Not only are there trails, but a couple of "play" areas to float through and do some muddin'. If you want to check out some other info, try the DCNR website (don't know it offhand, sorry). It has some info on it and addresses and phone numbers for the Ranger stations.

I live only a couple of hours away from Marienville and can't wait to try out the trails. I'm also glad that camping is an option. I have 3 kids and lots of nephews who will get a big thrill out of a weekend like that.
I'll get in touch with you guys more in the future when I pick up my new AATV later this year.
Any other info on a Western PA AATV club?

Sorry you didn't make it to Humphrey! You missed one heck of a trail ride. Suggest you start planning to make it next year. From what they said at the awards ... the NEW mud pit/obsticle course will be just our style of fun ...! Speaking of fun ... when are WE going up to the ANF?

I was bummed I didn't get to make the Humphrey event, Just had too much going on before I realized it was Humphrey time. Are you able to go up to Timberline the 27th or 28th (Mon) next week? A buddy on a quad and myself are going to hit the trail Sunday and/or Monday. I'll email you privately on further plans. I haven't seen too many aatvs making use of it yet. I would love to get a gang of riders up there before it gets closed for the season. Of course, I look forward to hitting it when it reopens after antlerless deer season. Think snow for the winter rides!!

Billy, the only info I can give you re: a club in WPA for us AATV riders is that we are just trying to get a group together to ride. If we could get enough riders to form a club, it would cool to get everyone together and help out the Forestry folks when trail surveys and maintainence is required. It is always nice to help out when needed and therefore help promote these wonderful "go anywhere" machines. We've already opened some eyes. Now to spread the word a little more and have some fun!

Hey, anyone out there interested or been in the Laurel Highlands area (Pa.)? Folks around here are trying to get together an atv club to get trails opened around here. They had some DER people at the earlier meetings talking about the possabilty of opening some areas for challenging coarses and some areas for scenic beauty. The meetings are going to be held on the first Wednesday in Nov. and Dec. at 7:30 at the Indian Head Rod and Gun Club. I'll tell you this folks- I live in this area and it would be very worthwile to be able to legally ride in one of the most beautiful(someplaces remote) areas of the state.
