I have a 2000 Bigfoot and am interested in others to ride with or to find out some riding locations or clubs in Ontario when I can't get up north. Thanks
By argo6x6 on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Did you find any places to ride in Southern Ontario? Any Argo clubs?
By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
You guys might want to consider attending our events in Humphrey NY in April and July. We often have our Canadian neighbors come down, including the folks from ODG. Humphrey is about one and a half hours from the Peace Bridge. Perhaps you will meet some folks to ride with.

HI
I live in southern Ont.Where about's do you live.
Send me an email sometime and maybe we could do some riding around here.
Pete

I am hoping to make it down to the April ride for at least a day. If not I have found a atv club around the Cayuga area. I will let you know when I get more information
By bugaboo on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
What week end is the Humphrey ride and how do you get to it. Do you have to register for the whole week end or can you just come down for part of it.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Theirs a few Ontarions up around the Bruce Pennensula with ARGOs, always looking for more
By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Complete info about our Humphrey NY events, including the April Dice Run, the July Jamboree and our 2002 Max Raffle can be found by going to the Riding locations topic. See my post of Feb 25 2002 for event specifics and directions.
The best day to be at the April run is Saturday. Typically it starts with a trail ride around 10 am and ends with a night ride that often runs very late. The Dice Run itself is Saturday. We usually do a night ride Friday night also.
If Mr Greeks inquiry was to me about where do I live, I am in Forestville NY which is about an hour SW of Buffalo near Dunkirk. My email is jsschwab@localnet.com Hope you all can come down.

Bugaboo, I am in Toronto, the argo is at our cottage on the Bruce Penninsula--Are you anywhere close??
By david berger (Davidrrrd) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
david keeso, philip osborn lives nearby to you,
prehaps he can ride along as well,
By Bugaboo on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
David I am in Burlington so I am fairly close to your home but I am not sure how close to your cottage. Do you go to the cottage in the winter?
By Chris M. (Argomaster9000) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hey guys,
I'm from Mississauga, about 2 minutes north of Pearson International Airport. Looking for some places to ride in the Southern Ontario area. Would prefer between here (Mississauga) and south of French River. Does anyone know any good spots? I was thinking more like "unload and ride" type of area, perhaps a sideroad somewhere or something like that? Crown land?? Have an ARGO Conquest 8x8. Went out with it only once since I bought it (July 2002), so I'm looking forward to finding some places. I'm willing to travel up to 2 hours from Toronto.
Thanks guys.
By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
isn't it already snowing up there?? what are the problems with trying to bring an argo up from the states? as in border crossings and such? since i have never been to southern ontario,or any where else up there. closest i 've come is grand rapids minn.about 60 miles north west of duluth.
if anyone has made a bordercrossing, any info would be helpful.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Bugaboo, Ya, we go up in the winter, mainly at christmas and one other time before the spring.
Mike, No it is not snowing up here yet, we have only had one snowfall so far and as chris will tell you, it only stayed on the ground for no more than an hour or so. (It snowed once during the night but their wasn't any on the ground)
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Mike (wetsu) not totally sure, but I don't think you would need more than ownership and maybe insurance, but I am not really sure.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Chris, I am in etobicoke, around dundas west area
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Scott, Jerry, Bugaboo, Chris, and anyone else in the area, lets plan something for early december or something. I know another person who may also be interested.
By Chris M. (Argomaster9000) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hi David.
That's quite close to me... At least my home in Mississauga. I don't actually live there right now. 8 months of the year, I live in Sudbury (studying here at Laurentian University). But that's where my parents live. As far as snowfall, I keep up to date on the weather back home as well, and I know that there was some snow. Here in Sudbury we've had about 3-4cm which lasted about 4-5 days before melting. Too bad... I love the snow, for Argo'ing and skiing!
Also, I didn't know that people close to me (Miss.) owned Argos. I thought the "city slickers" didn't own any until I heard from you. HAH! Looking forward to hearing from others in the Toronto area. :-)
One more thing... I was seriously debating going to the Humphrey Ride maybe next year. I also hear that the Badlands are really good too. So any information regarding border-crossing with an Argo would be really helpful as some of you have mentioned.
P.S. - David, any good locations on where to go riding? The "stop, drop and go" type of riding that is... Stop (pull over), drop (the trailer ramp) and go (in the bush!). Thanks.
By LARRY HOUGHTON on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
I'm a Max dealer in central ontario and I would also like to find some trails to ride on.I'm about 60 miles N.E.of Toronto and would like to find another place to ride besides my farm.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Larry, did you by any chance rent a house in florida from someone with the last name Keeso?? Your name sounds very familier.
By Bugaboo on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
When I started this topic I had no idea there were so many southern ontario riders. I think we should defininatly plan a ride soon. Does everyone have there machines at home or do they have to go get them. Also does anyone know where we can ride or who we can contact perhaps about crown land we can ride on. I know there is an area in Turkey point which I hear we can ride. You need insurance and a helmet as it is crown land that is patrolled.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
My machine is on the Bruce Puninnsula, at the cottage. About 2 3/4 hrs out of Toronto. If we do a ride, it should be on a holiday when we have a few days off. I am in school and so is scott I think. He is in Caledon. I don't think we have insurance on the argo, to hard to describe. I know we tried but the insurance company didn't know what it was.
By Chris M. (Argomaster9000) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Bugaboo, my machine is at home. It would be great if we could plan something out sometime. I think everyone would have fun.
David, yeah, I'm in school as well. We also have insurance on our machine. It was too expensive of a toy NOT to insure. The only thing we do NOT have is registration, which we were unable to obtain as the MTO could not classify the Argo as anything (HAH!).
Also, about Crown Land, my family and my cousins once went on Crown Land which was only about 45 mins north of my place (Mississauga). I clearly remember that they had trails throughout the woods and there was also a large sand pit in the middle. The problem with that was it was just over 10 years ago. Who knows what happened to it now, espcially with Toronto expanding north so quickly. Also, we only went there once and it was because he (uncle) bought a dirt bike. So I don't know if he remembers where it is still. It was just off Airport Road. I'll ask though. It would be a really good spot as it's not very far.
By jerry smith (Deerhunter) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
I just got back from a ten day hunting trip about 30 miles NE of Parrysound and put the Bigfoot to the test again. No real trails where I go, you just work your way through the bush and hope for the best. Anyway the Argo made it home again with two flat tires to fix. I had one spare with me and I came out of the bush on five wheels close to seven miles. The Goodyear rawhides suck the side walls cut too easy. Anyway let me know if you guys get a ride going in Ontario, be happy to go along. Jerry
By Larry Houghton on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Dave:No,I've never rented a house in Florida. Also there may be a spot to ride near Hastings Ontario but these trails are on old railroad beds.I will ask a couple of customers again about where they go riding and let you guys know. What we definitaly need is something like the Humprey's ride if you can find the area. A 100 acres probably just would't do.
By Chris M. (Argomaster9000) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Jerry,
Sorry to hear about your tires, but at least you made it back safely. Try popping a tire on a quad and without any spares. HEH! We're still looking for a nice place to ride, you're not the only one who would love to go riding.
Larry,
Yeah, I've heard about the railroad bed. It's something like 300km long right? I saw this on an ATV forum, some guys talking about it. Yeah, we definatly need a Canadian version of Humphrey. My property is 200 by 50... FEET! HEH! That's actually quite a large property we own for living in a city like Mississauga. We can get together there... Assuming we can fit all of our machines on it, let alone move around! :-)

JERRY YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT THE SIDEWALLS ON THE RAWHIDES. MY BIGFOOT CAME WITH THOSE TIRES AND AFTER ABOUT A YEAR ALL SIX HAD MASSIVE CUTS IN THE SIDEWALLS. I HAD TO PUT TUBES IN ALL SIX AND BUY A TIRE CHANGER FROM NORTHERN TOOLS. I WAS FIXING FLATS DAILY FO R OVER A YEAR. THE TUBES WORK FOR A WHILE, BUT AFTER YOUR TIRES FILL UP WITH 10LBS OF MUD AND WATER THROUGH THE SIDEWALLS THEY TOO GO FLAT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY ARE ONLY 2PLY AND ROCKS AND STUMPS RIP THEM EASILY. THE TREADS ON MINE ARE ALMOST NEW, BUT I SCRAPPED THEM ALL FOR THE 6PLY GATOR'S. THEY ARE SO STIFF YOU NEED ALMOST NO AIR. THEY ARE POOR IN THE WATER THOUGH.

well so far the only thing i can find out about crossing the border is; you can only have 1 carton of cigarettes,or case of beer per person.the only gasoline you can take is whatever is in your gastank of the vehicle you are hauling.i;e your boat. some times you are searched sometimes not. just so you know i got this from some friends of mine that go to canada to go fishing. i'm not done yet,i may have to just call customs to see if they know.oh 1 more thing you have to show ownership and i think insureance.but i'll keep checking.
as far as stop, drop, and roll i'm glad to see we down here in the states aren't the only ones who have that problem. here in kansas, the farmers or ranchers seem to have a real problem with that.i work in construction, and see new developments as in housing, going up all the time.as soon as i find a new one,i hitch upthe ol' bigfoot and away i go.so far no one has tried to have me arrested for trespassing. just a thought for you city boys.usually not to much bush, but lots of open ground and depending on the terrain a few hills.hope this helps.

Tim Where did you buy your gator tires and what kind of price can I be looking at.thankyou Jerry

Listen up all Ontarians. I am currently working on getting a ride set up for late spring, early summer. I have talked to Terry Sugg who will talk to Ron Bast at ODG this week and get ARGO to come as well. I don't yet have a location, or date, but as we work it all out, I will let you know. Please keep in mind, it is not for sure yet as their is a lot of planning and trail research to be done.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
If we can get a ride organized, how many people would be interested in attending. It would probably be a day ride and a 1 day thing. I know their is no dates etc. but I just want to know how many people would be interested and would actally try to make the trip?? I need some numbers to have an idea.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
To all who have attended Humphrey is the past: Do any of you remember someone by the name of Terry Sugg?? he used to go for the rides and he is the one that will be helping to organize a ride if we do one.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Alright, you Ontario people want a ride--I am trying to get one started sometime in the near future, but nobody replies. Does this mean nobody's interested?? Please read my above posts as I would like to forward the numbers to Terry Sugg so we can maybe get things going.
By Bugaboo on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hi David I would be interested in a ride and I encourage anyone else that is interested reply so maybe we can work together to set something up. I have been trying to find areas to ride but have not come up with anything yet. The only place I have heard about is the crown land in the Turkey point area. This is crown land mainly for motercycles but I think we could go on it. I am trying to find someone to contact about it. Anyway I think there is enough of us in the area we should all work together to find a good place to ride.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Their are places to ride, but it may not be the kind of ridng that they have at Humphry. However, whatever the terrain, it would still be a really good time and we could put some faces to names. I am hoping to get some numbers and try to work something out soon.
By John on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hi David
I am interested in a ride in southern Ontario depending when it is.
Regards
John
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Good, only a few more needed and i can pass on the info. I am hoping that we can get a ride going before it gets too hot in the summer. Everywhere right now is either really wet and not very fun or their is a lot of snow. Having it being wet is good, but when the air itself is really damp and drizzley, its not much fun.
By Larry Houghton on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hi David ;I am also interested in a ride. I also one or two other people who would also be interested,if you don't mind seeing a MAX or two show up.
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Okay, so at least 3 would be interested, not including me and the other people I know at the cottage. Were off to some sort of start.
I havn't heard from scott phillips in caledon yet, but he may be interested. Anyone else??
By david berger (Davidrrrd) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
ask roadwolf, (philip osborn)
By jerry smith (Deerhunter) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
David - I will come along for the ride if I get the bigfoot fixed in time. it is sick in bed with a trany problem . Jerry
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Okay, 4 people so far. I will for sure get in tough with Terry and let him know tomorrow. I am hoping that early spring will work out. It is still wet and cool but no too bad. I have to overhaul the ARGO before that but no big deal--I will keep you posted!
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Okay, all you Ontrario people (and US if you are willing to make the trip) I talked to Terry Sugg about 4 minutes ago now. We are going to scout out some good trails around the bruce penninsula around march as he is away for a month and I won't be up to the cottage until after he is back other than the February 15th weekend. We will be doing a ride most likely in april when the weather is warming up, but it is still really wet and their will be some great mud holes. It may not be what they have at Humphrey, but i promise that we will find good areas to ride and I will post the dates and locations as we work them out.
I will need to know if some more of you would like to attend as long as it all works out. Max and ARGOs are most welcome as well as any other machines that you have. We would like to get at least 10 machines including terry and I (2 argos.)
I have had 4 people say they would be interested so lets see if we can get some more. Their is no question that their will be a ride, the question is when and where. When I go up to the cottage on the Feb 15th weekend, I will drive around the penninsula and find trails and anything else that we could ride on and and landowners about using parts of their property.
By bugaboo on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hi guys has anyone found anywhere to ride yet I found a rail trail in Cayuga but I think it was illegal as ran into no tresspassing signs. cant seem to find out lots of snowmoble tracks there. I am also wondering if it is better to start the argo up for a short time to let it idle or am i doing more damage than good if it does not get really warmed up and condensation builds up in engine. anyway let me know of any rides or areas as I am certainly getting anxious to ride
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Bugaboo, I am going to be going to the cottage again in a month or so with someone else who is a fellow ARGOer. We are going to map out a large number of trails and organize a ride this spring (late april, early may) and I will let you know of the date when it is set.
By Bugaboo on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
HI David
That sounds great as I am getting really anxious for spring and maybe see some mud instead of the snow and cold. I don't have tracks or a top for my machine and I wish I did so I could get more use out of it but before I spend all the extra money I want to be sure I would get the use out of it all. Anyway looking forward to any rides anyone can arrange as the only riding I do is usually with those four wheel machines and we all know they just don't float.
By Bugaboo on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Well guys the snow is starting to melt fast and that means the mud is close. Anyone who is getting ready to ride let me know and I am still looking for places to ride down here before we head north. If anyone has any ideas let me know
Thanks
