Chris, there are lots of riding area. The best place to find out about riding in the Rochester-Buffalo area is to call Ramona Griffin, she is the president of the Ribit Riders a 6 wheeler club. You can reach her in the evenings at 716-655-2922.

is there any kind of admission price to pay for the humphrey ride? do you have to make reservations?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By david berger (Davidrrrd) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

newmax, no there is no admition price per say, you can drive right in and camp out along with the other riggs, however it is a FUND RAISER and
you will have too pay to particapate in the dice run, also perhaps the timed events on sunday?(i dont remember) anyhoot plan too leave some money there.it go's too suport the volenteir fire department and in turn thay suport our sport!
as in the post above yours you should call ramona griffin or e-her at: ribitrdr@earthlink.net
also bring clothes for any season ! last april it was hot as hell and the july in 2000 was cold as hell, you cant predict humphrey's wether!
and gas! bring extra! also little coolers for food ont the trail! it can take 4 or more hours to compleat coarse depending on the people ahead of you and of coars the pace you would travel alone,(take cair with soda as loosely paked in cooler can explode)feal free if you have any more questions, but as i said ramona is part of the event's planing comity and she has all the ansers!

Does anyone know if a State Registration Sticker is Required for the Humphrey Rides?

Thanks,
Al

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Al,
No permit is needed.

Anyone going to Humphrey in April? I would like to take my family and our Max IV and Max II. The weather for driving out from Vermont makes me leary. We have been twice to the July ride and have been glad we went both times. We're not worried about the weather for riding(we've been seen with our blue tarp canopy before!) Brad

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Al on Unrecorded Date: Edit

argogeru,
I assume it's all private property then?
Thanks,
Al

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Thats right al, a lumber company owns most of it.
Brad,
I will be their, I think I rember you and your wife, I rember the canopy on your IV. I have the green bigfoot, and have the lively campsite with the big bon fire in the camping area. 5 of us are coming in april from michigan, hope its a muddy mess like the last two years. see ya their,
Jon Hoath

Are we going to be able to use the field for camping or will it be under snow. I have a motorhome

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Brad Garrow on Unrecorded Date: Edit

You guys are talking our language now. There's nothing I like better than a mud pit. I'll bet Ramona's mud hole will be soupier than last July (Although I almost didn't make it out then!) My green Max IV likes mud and wants to bring my wife's Max II in as deep as she dares(her first trip with this machine) Brad

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Russell Lee (Bigkodiak) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Newmax,
If the grounds are under snow I'll be hosed 'cause I was planning on camping myself and I will be in the 'REDNECK POPUP' (2 man tent on a utility trailer)
Russ

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Russ,
I am bringing a 16x16 army tent that we use in the u.p. during deer season. We shovel the snow, put a tarp down and we are in hillbilly heaven, if you have a cot bring one we have room.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Russell Lee (Bigkodiak) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Geru
Thanks for the offer, but if my wife doesn't want to sleep in the same room with me I don't think many others will either. I SNORE WAY TOO DAMN LOUD.
I also have a beautiful 6 man Cabelas geodisic that I use for hunting as well, worst case scenario I'll bring that if there will be snow on the ground so I can use my heater.
Are tracks a requirement for this ride or should most of the snow be gone?
Russ

The weather here in Western New York is very unpredictable especially in the spring. Two years ago it was warm and sunny for the April ride and quite chilly for the Jamboree in July! All I can suggest is plan for everything weather-wise. The good news for you muck lovers is that some of the lumber company land has been freshly logged and now resembles a gooey no-mans land!We have been working on the course and have added some new trail. The parking and camping area is gravelly and pretty well drained so motorhomes can be brought regardless of weather.

hello everyone. can someone tell me about their experiences with using tracks on your 6x6 or 8x8. I want to get tracks for my 6x6 and would appreciate any experiences you may have had using tracks. Mainly how good are they in certain snow conditions and depts. any information would very helpful, thank you

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By newmax on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I just got tracks for mine this year. don't think there is a limit on snow depth. you stay right on top. maybe if you had sveral feet of real powder that might be a problem not sure. I can tell you that 2 years ago i had just the 26" tires and i got stuck all the time. anytime i went off the edge of the snowmobile trails tires would sink right in and that was it. I have not been stuck once this year. and we have over 3' of snow on the ground.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By bob on Unrecorded Date: Edit

What the hell are you doing on snowmobile trails without tracks! No Wheeled Vehicles means just that. I am a six wheeler and a snowmobiler. Both have their place.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Bob is right- When any ATVer takes his machine on a snowmobile-only trail it hurts relations between groups that need to work together to get trails for all of us. Not to mention the legalities involved.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By newmax on Unrecorded Date: Edit

sorry but some of the trails around here are private owned and allow wheeled vhicles on them

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

newmax-After I typed my previous post and sent it ,it dawned on me that you could have been on private trails. Please accept my apology for being presumptuous. We had a winter ride up here in western NY about a month ago and I have never done so much pushing and pulling and being pushed and pulled in my whole life. It was a blast though. We had two BFs with us one had rubber tracks and one had plastic. Each type had its strong points and weaknesses, but either was better than those of us who were on tires alone. I was able to put together an hour long video of the weekend, if anyone is interested contact me.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By newmax on Unrecorded Date: Edit

no problem John. that doesn't bother me. I went out again last night. we had anothe 3 inches of snow followed by rain. the snow was soft had no problem. went up some pretty big snowbanks as well. had to try out my new suspension seat. What a difference. it is a whole different ride now.
