We've all followed the Humphrey ride posts and other similar events, and they're all great events. Are there any places where we could go ATV hiking and camping? Travelling from one spot to another everyday, camping along the way... The Humphrey ride, even though it has some long trails, always seems to be a loop back to the starting point. When I hike, I usually just keep going, it would be great to be able to do that with my Max. Just wondering, probably not.

to bad you don't live near here. n.h. i have trails right in my back yard that go for hundreds of miles

Tell us about them. Can you camp along the trails? Can 6x6's and 8x8's ride these trails? What kind of paper work do you need to ride in N.H.? It might be worth a trip.

NewMax, wow! That would be a dream to have a place like that to ride. What's a nearby city in NH? NH isn't that far away from NY, it could be driven for a nice expedition. Are the trails legal to ride on?

Newmax, I don't know what part of NH you live in but where I live in NH you must be OHRV registered, to ride, then you can't really ride any of the state trails because of the gates that never seem to be open no matter what time of year it is. And you should really join a atv club or you will have to get every landowners permission to cross their land, have that signed list with you at all times so in the event you get stopped by law enforcement you can show them you have said permissions. I also live here in NH and have only ridden in VT on private land. Yes, NH have quite the many miles of trails, mostly those are snowmobile trails to start with. I can ride for 50 + miles where I live, but I have to join an atv club to do it first. Not a biggie, since my cousin is the president of the club for this side of the state. Beware of who's land you're riding on, because they may close it tomorrow.

i am ohrv registered. i can fit between all the gates just like the 4 wheelers can. these are all snowmobiles trails. i belong to a atv club and they ride the same trails. i can go to stores and all over the mountain right in may back yard. it would be nice to have other people to ride with. I talked to the 4 atv club and they do not get bothered at all by the police. i also go on these trails in the winter. i live about 1//2 hour from concord n.h.

NewMax, are the state orange gates open in your area? Because we have one state trail in our town that is never open and the spot between the end of the gate and the cement cylinder is no more than 3 ft wide if that.
I contacted the State on where to ride, and issues concerning ohrv laws, don't take it in the water to fish from because it will need a boats registration. Just word to the wise

no the gates are closed. but i fit between all the gates and the post except for 2 so far and on those there is a path around the other side that the big 4 wheelers use. I have trails all over the place here. they go town to town. i also have a small mountain that the trails lead to which has no gates and there are trails all over it. awesome trails. mud, hills ect. thanks for the advice., because i have the contoocook river in my back yard that i have been using all the time. i go quite a ways in it. i'll have to register as a boat too.

Interesting that you have to register an AATV as a boat. I tried to register my Argo as a boat so I can take it to a local water park. I was told that it is a vehicle, not a vessel, and doesn't need registration, even with a trolling motor.

I talked quite a bit with the Lady from our State's Wildlife OHRV department, and she was quite clear as to the fact that if you plan on using it in the water for fishing or just to float it down the river or lake/pond it must have a NH Boat registration number. (kinda sucks) but if you just have to cross a stream or through a pond to hit the trail again then it is simply covered under the OHRV laws and registration.

Something for you as well, there's a new guy at the state level taking over the ATV OHRV section, I'll be getting his name from my cousin who talks to him sometimes. I'll pass it along as soon as I get it. If we send him some mail perhaps we can get him to change the width limits to 60 inches for trails to allow our 6 wheelers legal passage.

If I came across as questioning you, I apologize. I live in Mississippi, and the only point I intended was that the laws we have to live with vary so much it can be a royal pain, especially if you want to travel (or relocate) with your AATV and need to learn yet another set of rules

bk i believe we are leagle to ride. if you look on the fish and game web site it doesn't say anything about the size of the vehicle. where in nh are you from

I'm on the western side of the state on the vermont boarder, in Claremont. I do know that parts of vermont are faviorable to 6x6, esp. in the northeast kingdom. I belong to a club up there that has about 35 miles of trails to ride on. I only know of one up there that is too narrow for our machines as told by the tailmaster we had the fortune of bumping into. He was quite impressed with my fathers argo. He gave us some good advice on which trails to ride on. All of the trails are loops between 6-8 miles long. Vermont has it's own set of atv trails that are seperated from it's snowmobile trails.
It's funny..I was just at the NH Fish and Game dept's site and although ATV's are limited to less than 1000 lbs and no more than 50 inches wide, you are right NewMax..OHRV's have no limit. But just the same I think I'll contact the new guy at our NH Atv division and see about raising the width limits..jus to be safe..change has to start somewhere.
