I am from Michigan and I have always wondered why argos are not allowed to attend maxarama? If this is fact as I am told,it is pretty dog gone pittiful on the person(s) organizing this ride. At quad dice runs they dont only allow hondas etc. We argo and max folk need to be a little more unified here people this state is already anti-anphib!

A Max dealer in Rockford Mi. is who organizes the Maxarama. He puts on the ride as a sort of customer appreciation gesture for his customers who bought their Max from him, however he does allow other Max owners to come. Here is a link to his website if you would like to ask him about other AATV's coming to the ride. There is a phone # and an e-mail address on the website.

Seeing as it is a customer appreciation ride for a particular dealer. It makes perfect sense.

As I understand it, the fellow originally started out his AATV dealership by carrying BOTH Max and Argo. After a year of spotty sales and poor manufacturer support, he dropped the Argo line and never looked back. After being left with a bad taste regarding Argo, he now only allows Max vehicles to the ride, which HE sponsers for HIS customers. He runs the deal, so he can make any rules he wants. Want to go? Buy a Max.

And for the record, NO I don't hate Argo. Just setting the record straight. But while I'm thinking about it... Does your Argo dealer offer a similar annual customer appreciation ride, with delicious free food, door prizes and manufacturer reps on hand to answer any questions? Hmmmmmm?

"And that's all I have to say about that."

Here is a thought. If the dealer that organizes the event allows other brands of aatv's to particiate, could it be that some other brands may do better than a Max? Duh, I don't think so. Maybe if the other brand drivers see how well the Max does over what they are driving, maybe they will switch brands? Maybe the dealer can sell more Max aatv's to brand X drivers?

dirtyharry,
As a matter of fact my dealer takes excellent care of their customers and am very satisfied with their service. thanks for the hate mail.
ALBO thanks for the info above but this does not sound like a very friendly ride for us argo people to attend even if we could.
And no dirty harry I dont want a max that bad.

For the record,
My dealer and myself helped two max owners at the humphry ride work on their machines. one had an electrical problem and one had a chain problem both of which we got the machines on the ride and if we wouldn't have helped them they probably wouldn't have ran the dice run because every one else had already left. thats the kind of people we are. had i known maxarama was a dealer appreciation ride i would never have posted my question. feel lucky you have a good dealer, I do.

mimaxer:
Alot more people have switched to argos from maxes so keep dreaming. five people at humphrey that had maxes three years ago now have bigfoots.
and those are just the ones "I" know of.

Doesn't matter to me what the hell you ride. My initial response was to a question laced with negativity about a perceived "biased" event. I don't have anything to do with the Maxarama. For the record, he's not my dealer. I bought my Max factory direct. All Max owners are welcome, but non-customers (like me) pay $20 to ride the weekend. I just considered it worth the money to be able to attend a ride other than just Humphrey.

I take offense to your calling my post "hate mail." I said I didn't hate Argos, and I don't. Personally, I just don't care for the front engine design (all noise and heat come right back at you; no legroom - plenty of Argoers wore knee pads in their machines... just the facts, M'am) and I didn't feel like paying an extra $2000 for a 6x6. I don't need a super-beefy battle machine for just puttering around in the woods/swamps. The Max suits me just fine, thanks. For the record, I do like the tough looks of those bright yellow Bigfoot machines.

I'm glad to hear that your dealer takes care of you. In this tiny segment of the ORV market, it behooves all dealers to keep their clientel happy as clams. It's much too easy to cross the road into the quad market which has, like, a zillion models to choose from, while us amphibbers get basically 2. (5 or 6 if you search REALLY hard.)

I myself had some engine trouble on the Dice Run at Humphrey. None other than the President of Recreatives himself stopped and helped my cousin and I out. That was pretty cool! You sure don't find the CEO of Daimler/Chrysler stopping to help out a stranded driver at a Jeep Jamboree!! After a few minutes of tinkering, we were back on the trail again. We rode with both Maxes and Argos. Good folks all around.

There are bound to be A-holes in every group. I judge people by who they are, not what they ride. If you're a jerk who drives an Argo (or a Max), then you're just a jerk... period. Same for all other AATV owners (Attex or Terra Tiger, et. al.) It doesn't matter what you ride... just be cool and ride!!!

Anyone got holiday 6-wheeling plans??? My two best friends and I are heading Up North around the Grayling, MI area for a long 4-day weekend of riding. I'll be taking my Max II and my 2x2 Rokon TrailBreaker. Maybe we'll see you on the trails!

RIDE... FOR GOD'S SAKE, RIDE!!!!!

Dirtyharry,
all is well, As i have said in the past I ride with alot of maxs' and thats when it seems i have had the most fun, and your right a jerk is a jerk is a jerk no matter what they ride. As far as this holiday weekend a bunch of us are going to haspin acres in laurel indiana. It is a 750 acre park with every kind of terrian possible. Were is it in grayling you ride? I have not found one legal place for a aatv to ride in michigan except for silver lake and a couple other scramble areas but they told me i had to have a roll cage and seatbelts, an exspense not very high on my priority list for my argo. would appreciate some info. RIDE HARD AND BE WELL.

In Michigan any ATV Route is open to all atv's regardless of width. ATV trails are only open to those 50" or less. Try http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/Orv.asp for the list.

Okay, so let me get this straight... our wonderful state has designated two different types of paths for ORVs?? A "ROUTE" and a "TRAIL" are two seperate entities? If that's the case, then maybe there are some areas where I can take my 6x6 without being accosted by the DNR boys. I wonder if the "ROUTE" areas are for everything from dirtbikes to Jeeps? That's what I've encountered in other states.

Michigan's 50" maximum ORV width law is a bogus smokescreen. There are a number of BIG quads out there in today's market, and I have seen several ATVs that have so much aftermarket junk (brushguards, cargo racks, etc., etc.) that they can easily slip over into the "illegal" zone. It sucks to be an amphib owner, when the difference between having fun and getting arrested is less than the width of your open palm! This law is especially ludicrous when you see how much more damage the trail systems take from lunkheads who go screaming every which way on those hyperfast quads. Rooster tails, powerslides, hard braking and rocket take-offs do a bazillion times more damage than the extra two inches hanging out from either side of our 'too-wide' machines. What a steaming load that law is.

On the positive side of things, when my friends and I last rode up at Grayling, we never saw a DNR officer. I would hope that if we ever do, our slow, easygoing pace and friendly attitudes would sway him (or her) from getting down on us too much for an oversized vehicle. We did encounter a handful of quads and dirtbikes. They were all very cool about us. Lots of "thumbs up" and the occasional "What the hell is that!?" was all we ever got.

Hey Kevin123,
Thanks for the link to the MI ORV locations! It will come in very handy when planning our Fall ride at the end of September. Perhaps I shall discover yet another new favorite riding area!

JD-
The rollbar/cage rule is sort of silly, but with litigation-crazed Americans sueing everything and everyone in sight, the Silver Lake folks have to protect themselves. My friends and I tried to go there three years ago, but were turned away because, at the time, I hadn't yet installed a rollbar in my Max. Too bad the literature they sent me didn't point that out. It would've saved a lot of wasted time and fuel. We may go back there one day. I just don't care for all that sand getting into every nook and cranny of my buggies. That stuff is hard to get out and is super abrasive on all moving parts. The Silver Lake dunes are fun when it's calm and a little damp, but they suck when it's hot, dry & windy!

RIDE ON!!!
DH

Argogeru, it's funny, I didn't even mention the name Argo in my post that you replied to. I specifically mentioned brand x. Could it be that you took this personally? Do you consider the Argo a "brand x". I don't. There other brands of 6x6 and 8x8 aatv's? There are more brands than Max & Argo or maybe it should be Argo & Max. Makes no difference to me. They are both good machines.

YIKES! it reminds me of the age old which is better Coke or Pepsi or should that be Pepsi or Coke. There are brand x colas out there too don't cha know!

mimaxer
It only takes common sense for people to figure out what brand x is. I dont take peoples opinion personally. Argo and Max are the only dependable made machines left in production. triton and the others are so exspensive their is not enough of them to be any competition for us. All the machines previously manufactured were inferior to max or argo. And as far as your dealer "converting" brand x drivers as you call them, How can he when he doesnt invite brand x ers in the first place to his event? I was told by somebody on this discussion board in the past that he lets all max people come reguardless if they are his customers or not, they just pay an entry fee. Is this true? I am sure I read that or heard it somewere. If it is true I would gladly pay him a fair price to ride in this event. I Enjoy riding with all brand x machines but your brand wont convert me because i am more than satisfied with what i have and i have driven several brand x's. maybe your dealer is scared someone might get converted from a max to a bigfoot? I know people who have, their is a few who chat on this board. maybe we should just all ride together and have a good time and not worry about all this max vs. argo bull shit. RIDE HARD AND BE WELL MIMAXER.
