There is a new off road park that just opened up in Rockport, IL. I plan on going up there this Wed to check it out. If it looks nice, might have a fall jamboree there this year. I will post when I get back if I think it is a good place to ride.

troy,i had to take a break from moving, and getting the house ready to move into.and see how things were going on the post.i'm refilling my cookie-jar for my next 6-wheeler,but i don't think it will be full enough to go this fall.but let us know how it is,and maybe next spring...(i hope!).mike

Mike, I will. I have been talking with the owners and they really seem like great people and will do what ever it takes to get us there. They are only open Fri to Mon and they are going to meet me at their place this Wed and take me around and show me the place. They did say that they don't have any camping facilities, but they might let us camp out inside the park anyways if some want to. I will post Wed night or Thurs, morning about what I found out.

Ok, I am back and I will that rockport Off Road Park is great. The Owners are great people and the park really nice. They took me on a few of the trails, they have 12 trails/play areas plus 2 mub pits right now. They are still building the place and making it better everyday. If you ever showed up at the Badlands and rode on the Orange trail, I can tell you that most of the trails are as challenging and technical if not more then the Orange trail at the Badlands. I would even say that the trails at this place are better then at Haspin Acres. The only down side is no camping on the grounds, no beer, and no night rides due to Insurances regulations. There is a very nice campsite 15 miles away that has a 50 acre lake to fish or swim and each campsite has elec, water, and cable. I stopped by there and talked with the owners of the campsite and they will work out a deal for us there. The woman even said that they will have games and stuff for the kids and adults to do after the ride. I have a bunch more info, if you are interested in more stuff, let me know.
I am thinking of having a ride in Oct at this place if I can get a commitment of at least 10 atv's to show. Let me know if you can and would go to a ride in Oct. If not, I will have one next spring.

Troy
I have to say that I can NOT make this ride. It is over a 14 hour drive and over 800 miles.
Russ
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hey Russ,
I understand. I do hope I can get enough that would want to go. I really want to ride out there and would like a little showing so that next year they know that we will bring atvs there so they will give us a big discount.
I told them that I will try to get a few guys out there this year for a trial run. I know everyone will like the place.
By Missouri's Max Dealer (Brandon_price) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
I tried to get a Max to ride but it turned out to be more of a project then I wanted to take on right now. I looked at a '95 Max IV with a roll cage, windshield, 25hp Kohler (from another machine), and 26" tires in Macon, MO, last Friday. It needed at least a few new sprockets but the reason I didn't buy was because the body was sagging and rubbing the tires. That is a little more work than I want to mess with right now. He wanted $1800 as it sits so if anyone is interested in a project, email me and I'll give you his phone number.
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hey Brandon,
Just use the Max IV you have now and ride.
Does anyone want to get together and ride at this new park?
By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Troy- Thanks for getting this ride together, but is is a bit out of my range, 800+ miles. Does your route there go near NY? Perhaps you could pick me up. Just kidding of course.
By Eddie Beddingfield on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Troy, depending what weekend you make it I will be on vacation in oct. I will be interested in going. Eddie
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Right now Eddie, you are the only one that showed any interests. I do hope that I might be able to get a few to show up. I think this park will be a nice place to ride. If I get enough people interested, I will post a date.

Troy, Roger and I would like to make the Rockport, ILL ride but we will not know for sure for awhile. I have major problems with my back and I won't know until I see the doc again later this month if I'll be allowed in the ARGO anymore. Have you decided which weekend to try?

What towns are Rockport, ILL near?

Hi Mike, good to hear from you.
(wakes up and smells the coffee) Troy! I just located Rockport Il and it's only an hour from your house? Looks like an hour north of St Louis, a little west up near the Mo state line. I could go for that, count me in. This could be a great find.
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Your right roger. It is only one hour from my house, 1 1/2 from the shop.
Roger and Bonnie, It is just west of Bowling Green, MO only a few miles into IL. Just south of Quincy, IL.
Here is there web site: http://www.rorp.com/home.html

Yes I have been out at this place. The owners took me out for a tour of the place and I think it will be good. This ride will most likely just be at the regular park.

Troy
I sent you an e-mail stating that I would be working on Oct. 11/12. Just want to let everyone know that I would love to be there. It will be about 1000 miles round trip for me, but that's ok, its riding with friends that count. I will be retiring the on Jan. 1, 2005. Then I will be at all of these rides. Can't wait. The last ride I had was in Olean, NY, and had a great time. I hope we will get a bigger turn out next year. All of you guys have a great time at RockPort and be safe.

If everything goes as planned, I will be there with my Max IV. Its been a while since I've been on a 6x6 ride or even had a 6x6 to ride. I'm ready to destroy something so lets make this a good ride.

Brandon,,,is the Max IV you are taking to this event, one of your new "demo,s" ,or is this a used Max IV you recently bought. What size motor does it have?

Troy:
Roger and I will probably be no-shows for the Rockport, Il ride. My doctor isn't too in favor of the idea since it sounds like the place may be a little on the challangeingly tough side. The ole back has just given out as for as getting bounced around real hard. When you are without 3 of your lumbar disks it tends to make you a bit more cautious. If we change our mind at the last minute we'll just show up. You guys all have a good time and please be careful. I guess for now I'll just ride the ARGO in the yard. See you all around .

Bonnie,
I understand about back problems. I do think you would be able to ride there ok. Might not be able to go on all the trails, but there are a few that I have been on that are just nice and easy trails also. Hope to see you and roger there, but if not, maybe next spring. Take care.

Bonnie, Did you ever make yourself an air pillow to sit on? I have a two level spinal fusion (with stephie plates) and would not have been able to ride in my max without it (and very low pressure tires) for many years. The second operation is about 15 years old now and for the last couple of years, I have been very good and don't use the pillow all the time anymore.
My air pillow is a 21 x 8 tire size inner tube tied together in two places to hold the sides side by side and it has just enough air in it to keep me about 3/4 of an inch off the seat. Try it, and with your brace on, it might be just the ticket.
By Bob Eells on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Troy, This is Bob Eells. I was at Haspin with you guys in June. I read the info sheet you have posted but am unclear as to whether you can camp at that place or do you have to go to the campground. I am thinking about leaving Friday morning as this looks like about 600 miles one way. Any additional info you have would be great. Thanks
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Bob,
No we can't camp there at the off road park now. Insurance will not allow it. There is a campground about 14 miles away that is very nice. Each site has electric and water. The campsites that I have set up for us is right next to the lake they have. We can fish and swim in the lake. The campground is called Pine Lakes and there phone # is 217-285-6719.
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Just wondering how many people are planning on showing up for the ride? Also, how many are planning on staying at the campgrounds?
Thanks
By Bob Eells on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Troy,
This is Bob Eells. We will be coming Friday night and staying at the Pine lakes campground. When I called them they didn't have any sites in reserve for you. If that is the case you beter double check or maybe I made my reservation to early.

You guys have fun!

just wondering which one of the two days will there be more people at the ride? i will only go one day and would like to go on the day with the most people.
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
3 days until the ride. I can't wait to ride again. Might rain Thursday and Saturday night. Should be some good mudding this weekend.
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Mr. Tinker,
I don't know, but at most rides, Saturday is the better of the two days to ride. Most people show up on Saturdays.

Argomag,
I guess your right. But I don't have anyplace to ride around the house that is close and riding by yourself is no fun.
By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
I want to thank all who came to the ride. I think everyone had a blast. Out of all the guys I talked to on Sunday, they all said they love this place. They rate it as being better then deepwater or Badlands. We didn't get to ride all areas of the park, the park is set up in different riding areas. With this being a new park, they are adding more trails each week so I think it will only be getting better. Hope to see everyone at the next ride.
