I have a Swamp Fox approx. that old. I don't have any info on it but it runs OK. Leaks a bit but I don't take it out in the lake much anyway.
16HP Tecumseh motor run great. T20 tranny causes me some trouble getting it into reverse but it eventually goes. My aggravation with it is the chains. They keep breaking especially the left side sprocket from the tranny. Everything else works on it: headlights, winch (slow), and handlebar throttle. I would like to upgrade it a bit but have little or no experience with these things. If anyone can give me some tips, I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jerry

Sounds like something is bent on that side of the machine. On the problem side, lift all three wheels off the ground and spin the tires while looking at sprockets and feeling chain tension. If one of the sprockets are bent, the chain will go loose and then really tight and that's when things break.

Jerry, The "hard to get in reverse" is normal for a T-20; just be patient. On your chain breaking, it could be a couple of things. Out of alignment sprockets or bad toothed sprockets could do it as well as a frozen link in your chain or just too tight of adjustment. You could have a bad bearing. If it is just one side or one chain, it probably means something is wrong. Could also be your tranny mount bolts are loose. If you can find nothing wrong, maybe you just need to go to better quality chain.
Good luck!
