I just picked up another Amphi-cat and it's quite faded. I have been sanding out the oxidized plastic and it shines up very nice, but what's the best way to clean up the plastic and polish it out and protect it? I am so happy to have this companion for my original Amphi-Cat but it has to look like my original one. Painting might be an option, but it never looks the same. If anyone has any ideas please let me know, I really want this to be like my 30 year old favorite!!

If it's not too bad how about cleaning the faded plastic with Acetone? It will strip it easily, but be very careful not to soak it as it will destroy the plastic completely. Use paper towels and throw them away after they get sticky, keep it up until it is red again. If it's not too ugly you can clear coat it, but if it is really bad consider coating it with resin first, then painting and a clear coat. Done skillfully your buggy should be as beautiful as it was in the days of the Banana Splits!

I used to use buffing compound and a low-speed buffer on faded out Attex bodies. It worked pretty well. After it's done, use some good automotive wax and it will stay that way a lot longer. Good Luck.
