Well... I did it again... WHEN WILL THE MADDNESS STOP!!! Although I need another project like a hole in the head, I lucked into a very nice Terra Tiger for $75 today! I would love to get any and all information that I can on these. If there are any other owners out there with detailed pictures of their machines, they would be of great help to my restoration! Does anyone know what engine these came with?
Thanks for any help!
Jeff

Wow I didn't the Internet would echo like that. That sounds like something said around my house. Congratulations Jeff ,on a great find. Don't give up .After three years of collecting and tinkering on old 6 wheelers we finaly got an early Attex going here.It was worth it,what a blast. It's like having your own carnival ride at home.Good luck.

How much can u pick up one of these old ones for. Not that i have any idea what to do to restore one, i am curious about pricing
Can you even get parts for them still

Thanks, Joel!
I am in need of a cover for the engine bay and an engine mount... anyone out there have a spare of either they want to sell?
By Joel Haslett (Rustyjeep) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Jeff,I have never seen a Terra Tiger other in pictures so I don't know what the cover you need looks like, but if you go to mt profile page by clicking on my name (rustyjeep)there is a picture of the Attex we have running. It has an engine cover made out of expanded metal. I thought it was home made but I am not sure. Could a cover be made out of something like that?
We also made our own motor mounts because the motor we used was not the original unit.
This Attex was hacked up so bad by previous owners that an authentic restoration was out of the question so we fabricated most of what we needed.

That engine you seek is a 10 hp JLO 295 cc two-stroke. It was pretty much the only one used in the Terra-Tiger and was also used in snowmobiles. Of course it would not be harrd to put almost anything in there because the engine bolts right to the body up front of the driver. The front engine cover is a piece of Fiberglas molded into louvers, not too difficult to make. What I would like to know is where you find this stuff, it's been three years and I still can't fine a restorable six wheeler around me!!!

I hand made my engine cover from woven fiberglass. Most older aatv parts can be machined or bought at Graingers, farm equipment supply, etc. Charger 69, I believe the 295 cc is 18 hp, also, you can find a lot of used aatv's right here on this site. I picked up a scrambler, an amphicat, a t 20 trans, a 440 cc 2 stroke, an an attex frame from this site for $350.

Where can you find these old 6x6 vehicles? Do you just look in junkyards or do you have contacs that know where they are?
By Jeff Schuster on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Both my 6x6s were found by asking the right person the right question at an auto salvage lot. I suppose when someone has an AATV that dies and they need to get rid of it, the salvage yard is the first place they think of.
I figure that I could fabricate my own replacement parts for this, but I'd like to try to find stock stuff first, if possible. Does anyone know what make and model drive clutch these came off the assembly line with?
Also, I may sell my SPD Wedge (needs tranny) to make more room in the garage to work on this one. It is a very cool looking machine, but I'm beginning to run short on time and money. I live in Minnesota. Let me know if you are interested!

Dave,I found a few of our 6x6 projects in a local classified magazine we have here. Many areas have a similar magazine.I also asked anyone I knew who traveled a lot if they had seen one. Most of the time people don't have any idea what you are talking about when you try to describe a 6x6.One of my coworkers came up with a lead that brought us to an Attex. It's kind of like fishing if you are patient long enough something will turn up.
There is also the classified page on this site as well as E Bay.

Thanks, around how much are they though in the ads. I am in Canada so if you know how much Canadian it is, it would help a lot.
Were ATTEX atvs common around here or are they scarce? From what I have been told, they had one model that was really fast and could do up to 60 mph if it was tuned right.
By attexsixwheeler on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
A stock Attex will not go 60 MPH and if it did, there's no way it could be safe...LOL! However a Superchief did go 48 MPH confirmed with my car and a stop watch. I have never seen one pass 50 Mph. Mine never passed 45 and you should see how dangreous that could be!

attexsixwheeler, what size tires on yer attex supercheif?
witch engine?
top speed might have to do with the year it was made too as some were more geared for racing than others,
so stock depends on the particuler modle year cheiff you try,
some stocks were very searios,
