Does anyone have information on the original Pug articulated ATV? I know Fred S used to own one. I searched the message board and found very little info on them. There are some old articles in Memory Lane but the poor scans are very hard to read.
I am looking at one for a 'round the house utility vehicle/ firewood hauler /snow plow/ wife and kids hauler.
What are the weak links to look at before buying an original?
Is the bed a dump bed? If it isn't is it easy to make it a dumper?
I beleive they have a multiple speed transmission. Can you shift on the go or do you have to stop and shift. Pulling power?

Liflod, It has been more than thirty years ago that I ran a Pug. It was a one speed auto clutch/torque converter system with a belt drive. Forward and reverse. Hydraulic auto type brakes. Center pivot articulating body. Hand powered dump box (simple bolt hinge if I remember right). Tecumseh engine that had a box that burned up when jumpered. It really was quite well built, but I had a young brother who liked to fix things - well at that point in time he liked to work on things - didn't always get all the parts put back. That electrical box was expensive and it was hard to get to the battery. When the machine was no longer dependable, I quit using it and the kids (My brother and same aged brother-in-law) kind of had free reign. I gave it away a few years ago when I moved. It was heavy, but had adequate power (it would go about twenty MPH). I used it for several years for feeding and cleaning stalls and if it had fewer operators and better care, it would have lasted longer.
