What a weekend ,took kids on camping trip .The 6x6 & its trailer performed great untill we were about ready to pack up for home.
Really turned out to be a bad day , the trialer I made to hook onto the back of the 6x6 had a bolt fall off.then the motor stopped dead,try and pull start it & it won't budge an inch.
Guess the motor is trash now ? or maybe the piston was so hot it expanded and froze up ? it was over 100 degree's here and we were
hauling some weight.
Then to make the day perfect the trailer for the 6x6 & its little trailer blew a tire out ,then in one mile the spare blew ,then the remaining tire also developed a leak.
Its stuck on the side of I-10 ,hope its still there today when I show up :(
You think the motor is trashed ? or is there any hope to "unfreeze" a stuck motor ?

I sure hope you had insurance on your machine.
At least your problems were after the weekend was over.

argonaut-- if your engine is trashed, now would be an opportunity to hop up the hp in your machine. ( I know this isn't want you wanted to hear, butI know almost nothing about engines- I just overwork them. (my driving habits and in the ARGO)

did it make any noise before it stopped or did it just stop cold? no pun intended. since i'm sure the engine has cooled off,you could try pulling the plugs and put some gas and oil mix into the holes.then try to pull it again.if the piston over heated and expanded and didn't weld it self to your sleeves this might work. but i think if i were you i'd be looking for a small engine repair shop.unless you motor is still under warranty.

That trip was worse than I had thought,seems I got overdrawn at the bank when I bought the tires,been a fun month.Almost didn't make it.poverty sucks :P
The froze up motor ? I went outside to beat er...I mean work on the 6x6 ,Then tried to unfreeze up the engine. I simply took a pipe wrench and turned the shaft - With little pressure the motor turned free .
I had also droped some marvel mystery oil in the spark plug hole over night , so that might have helped.
So the junk yard 6'er rides again !
Ive only given it a short test run , so not sure how much if any damage was done to pisten.

you never did say how the marshmallows turned out...heh heh heehhhh.glad to hear there was no serious damage to the motor.and yep,poverty does suck.

Their is absolutely nothing worse than going out for some fun in the ARGO or max and something going wrong just to trash your weekend. That seems to happen to me a lot. Luckly, the argo hasn't acted up recently and nor should it since we just dumped about 800 bucks into it and another 200 is going in soon for new chains.

david,where from,and what kind of chains will you be getting? the reason i ask is,i just got some diamond brand chain (rc50)for $9.00 a ft.the place i got them from sells it 10ft boxes.that was enough to do the idler's and the front drive chains.on my bigfoot.

Mike, I will get em from ODG. I don't want to spend the time searchin for others. Just want them, get em in and go. I don't have the knowledge or equipment to cut them and adjust etc. I like being able to go to the dealer and tell them I want chains for the magnum and go. may cost more, but i know I am getting good chain, it will fit and best of all, the guy that services the argo is 10 minutes away so when the chain from the second to third wheels are ready to go on, I can send it to him to do the dirty work. Then when the fronts are needed, he can have the whole machine. I aint gettin in there to do it. What are the chains that are by the brakes? Aren't those the idlers?

yep they are the idlers.the second biggest pain-in -the-a--'s to change.yet the easiest.only because they acually have an adjusting bolt.the front drivers are (in my opinion)the worst.BUT,if you have a pair of 6in.NEEDLE-NOSE vice-grips,they are all a breeze.once again,in my opinion,you are better off buying bulk chain.for example;i bought 10ft(of diamond )chain,and 4 master links for 98.00.that did both front drives and both idlers.odg wanted 34.00,a chain.i saved 30.00+dollars.as far as breaking them,all you need is a grinder.grind down the pin(after you count the links)pull it apart,then attach your vice-grips,your gonna need them even if you use the jap junk factory chains.pop in the master link and your done.now bear in mind that i have or had,a bigfoot,and you will need more than 10ft.a magnum is an 8 wheeler right?i only got 10 ft because that was all i needed.to do all i would have needed 20ft of 50 chain,and 10ft of 60.
now before anyone wants to get in my hinney for calling the factory chains "jap junk".i had to adjust my idler chains every time i wanted to ride.and sometimes during my ride.i put in these diamonds...and have NOT had to adjust them yet.and that is with 4 hrs on them.and they are much quieter too.
by the way,was gene any help to you in your quest for old pics?????i have heard rumors that he was around since the dawning of the 6 wheeler.and thought he might have something.

Ahhh... come on david it ain't not dirty work in the front...unless its a 2 stroke with a leaky hedder.Mines got one but hey at least it lubes the chains with the smoke from it ;) but seriously it's pretty easy to do. I need new chains on one side the adjusters are bottomed out and the chains still slap some when i locker up hard. but unfourtunitly chains are low on my list moneys kinda tight (still working on the drag truck) I will third the motion about poverty sucking ;) but hey it's kinda nice to work hard for something..but then again....

If memory serves me right, when I did my rear chains on the BF last summer, I was short by a foot with a 10'roll.
I agree though that by buying your own roll you are better off. I got my American chain from Shoupe Manufacturing on Argoguru's advice, but for some dumb reason, probably poverty, I bought Japanese chain for the idlers and fronts. What a mistake, I should have bought all American. I'll know better next time.

Damen, its not dirty work unless you have 15 years worth of s$@& built up on them. In my area, the poverty in the family is not an issue. If I want them done, I have to fork out the dough. Im not one to just throw the money out unless its a regular trip to the donut shop or gas for the car.

I used chain from John Deere on my old Max II. I'm sure they have double roller for Argo also. They even cut it to the length I need so all I had to do was put it on.
