I couldn't stay out of the sport for long. Yesterday I drove to Iowa to pick up two Sierra Trail Boss 6x6s. It was a round trip total of 930 miles and 14 hours. The machines have good bodies and tires. One has the original Kohler and the other has a Rotax, both 2-strokes. I haven't even taken the top off the body to see what goodies I'll find there. I'll take some pics of the inside soon but here they are on the trailer.

Hi Brandon,

They look nice. I would love to see more pictures as you get them. Now I know you are not one to take very many pictures hahaha, but please keep us posted.

Are these the 6x6's that we have talked about? Glad to see that you end up getting them. Make sure one of them are in good shape for the deepwater ride.

so brandon......now that you have a couple of 6's does that mean you'll be coming to deepwater in april??????????? i mean pictures may be worth a thousand words but.....an experience is worth a whole lot more.don t you think?

Have fun with them but just to let you know, buy lots of shear pins. Those trannies are a PITA.

I know what you are talking about with those shear pins, Russ. I had a Boss back in '93 when I was about nine years old (imagine that, lol). I love the function and performance of the trannies but they are so hard on things it will usually not hold together. The best thing I found was a tappered solid steel pin. I don't think one of those ever broke.

To those who are not familiar with the Boss transmissions - They are two separate units driven by the secondary clutch that sits on a shaft to drive both trannies. It is true six wheel drive like the Max, but unlike the T-20, you never shift gears on this machine. Instead of applying the brake like the Max or Argo, the Boss throws one side into reverse just like a HydroTraxx. It's a really fun and useful feature. I just wish it had splined sprockets and axles to hold all that stress.

I doubt one will be ready in time for Deepwater. I'm going to take every piece out of each machine and replace/restore everything. I would like to replace the 2-strokes with 4-strokes and keep most everything else like original.
