How much weight in the water can a Max IV float? I know the spec is 500lbs, but even in Max's brochure in shows four people floating

I have had about 600lbs of people in mine + accessaries. but it is not that stable. it will sway from side to side

Tom, I can tell you that you can carry 4 adults with hunting gear and 2 deer over the engine department in water. My guess would be around 1250#'s to 1300#'s. I will never do it again, but we did make it across a lake. About 150 yards and we were not stable at all. The specs say 500#'s because of insurance and lawyer reasons. Bottom line is, the more weight, the less stable it will be.

I'm not saying you should do this, but I have had four men (with three of them over 250 pounds and me about 200 punds) in the water (over 1000 pounds). I wouldn't want to float a river loaded like that, but in calm water, in a pinch, it can be done. I agree with Mike that it feels a little wobbly and everyone needs to sit still and be balanced!

Tom,
Your insurance & lawyer comment may only be half right. If they did it right, the numbers are also based on stability (metacentric height) calculations and keeping enough tire out of the water to provide some propulsion. The insurance comapnies and lawyers will insist on seeing those numbers. Its the same as the maximun weight numbers on a boat - you may be able to load more weight, but it is not safe.
