to brian
from scrambler71
look at your id tag
it should say what year is it
sound like a late
seventies or mid eighties
and you call your loc max dealer they should
be able to to tell you
your id tag should be on left side on the upper
body

Brian, Call the factory with your serial number and they will tell you what year you have. I worked on a 1978 with serial number 6341, it had a JLO. SN 6449 and SN 6541 were both 1979s and had Tecumseh engines.

if your max is mid 70's or older they cannot tell you the exact year. i have a maxIV and gave them the serial number and all they could tell me was it was made sometime in the mid 70's.their records only go back so far. good luck maybe yours is newer.
