This may be a really strange question, but lets say that some crazy person who was an owner of a ARGO or Max wanted to severly change the vehicle for different uses. How fast could the vehicle go without falling apart and before parts would wear extremely fast. I know that you would have to change the engine to a higher HP. but saying that you had the budget and were willing to make some cuts in the body etc. What is the fastest speed that a machine could go without either ripping apart and killing the owner. What modifications could someone make and how would the vehicle work.

DAVID ask mark stobinsky he has a 85 mph SCRAMBLER the thing is AWSOME!!!!! it is also Water cooled with a tuned racing pipe

Why modify anything, just get a Argo SS. It will run 49 mph. Will kill you if you hit the brake to hard. And also tear up pleanty of parts. Seriously I only open mine up on the flatest of terrain. It is a real thrill after running 4 cycle machines all the time.

i think you could look back to the 70's for your anser, some of the aatvs were doig 70+ and attex had 1 100hp alcahol powerd racer,
50 mph is fast enoph for me,

Hi, David
It's been done. Some of the modifieds in the NATVA races in the 70s reached nearly 100 mph on fast tracks. Outside of stuffing a fire-breathing two-stroke into the back, some had very little else done to them. Others had chassis mods so severe that it was tough to tell what they started out as- with six wheel independant suspension. There may still be a picture on Pete Cagle's site of one of the "springers". Quite a few used just the bottom half of a max body with an open top.
Many of the modified racers used Max, Attex, and Hustler as a chassis, but I don't remember many Argo. I'm sure there were some used, but it was a long time ago.
Take Care

100MPH??? or 100KPH? 100 mph is incredably fast! I don't think my van goes that fast!
I have no intension of hopping up the MAGNUm but I was interested to hear what other owners have done or have seen done.

Miles per Hour.
I've driven machines at probably 55 or 60- can't even imagine what a squirrel a skid-steer must be at 100 mph. I don't think you really drive, just kind of re-aim it every time you hit the ground.
Polaris and some others still build some pretty healthy two-strokes, so it wouldn't be out of the question to make your own performance machine.

Yes I have a original SS, it had the white interior, factory gauges, racing stripe and ss on transmissiom.I put new axles and bearings in.Redid the upholstery , new chains and new stripe.Mine has 287.0 ss stamped on trans.I could probably call factory with this info but have never done it. PS mine is orange in color , is yours green? Eddie
By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Their weren't many made-It was around 50 or something made and that was it.
By argoss on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
Hey eddie,
Mines 250. Yeah mines green. All original exept for the interior and ampmeter. Oh yeah and currently the the engine is a techumpsa. CCW is out of it currently for a rebuild and new clutch I accidently blew up the other clutch. Damn salisbury style clutches they always seem to put the clutch fingers through the side of the clutch. What year is yours? And do you happen to have a piture or two of it Im trying to figure out how the stripe was colored. mines to faded to tell.I miss the CCW already it is damn fun doing dounuts with it. But the techupsa has loads more lowend torq. I am currently thinking about putting a brand spanking new snowmobile engine in it.A 40hp 4-stroke that is.
It was 50 a summer from 1972-1975.
Oh and also if anybody was wondering it was clocked with a gps unit at 55 mph on the dirt
My current project is a scrambler. When finished it is going to have a full frame in it and a 16 or 18 briggs vanguard engine in it.I am thinking about having some hedders custom made for the engine them briggs sound good when they have hedders on them whith no mufflers just as long as you make sure the hedders are tall enough that is. Maybe even a achol breathing vanguard.I been looking at the racing go Kart catalogs to much again if you cant tell.
Ok everybody,I was wondering since were on the subject of "Hopping" up our machines what is everybodys dream macine.
i am lucky enough to happen to own one of mine but My scramblers pretty much open to being modded since it is just at the beging of its resto job
Anybody happen to know of any mods that are good for the scramblers besides a nice aluminum frame?
well happy speed runs everybody!

Would it be possible to drop a 25 HP Kohler command into a magnum without modification to the tranny, clutches, or frame, chains etc?
By Damen T.Hill (Argoss) on Unrecorded Date: Edit |
The only modifications I can see that you may have to make are to the engine mounting plate.as I had to with the engine I put in my argo but all that was involved was drilling new mounting holes in plate.

You will need to change the mounting holes on the engine stand/update it with gussets and material thickness to increase strength and buy a new drive clutch. The 25hp Command does not come with a 1" crank like the Magnum. You will also have to make/buy and exhaust system and change the wiring harness and possibly the key switch. You will need a different drive belt also.

one thing you shoud custom fit in there is a blast sheald for cluch discs, there awfly cloas to yer but!
that way hop ups will not ruin you whole week down the road.
somthing realy safe now, 1/4" steal or dimond plate maybe, just incase a disc scaters, better safe than sorry, and the other scrambler owners will take searios note i think, prehaps you could sell plans ect...hotest idea since the fire extingisher or onboard bee spray mount!
remember me when you make yer 1st million!

The scatter shield is a very good idea I will difintly remeber that I am going to work on the interior the rest of the winter. And also Did the scramblers have some type of floor pans?I was just thinking about using 1/8 inch diamond plate. And does any one happen to have a picture or two of the interior of a scrambler?
