Hi folks,

The other day while doing maintenance on my '97 Max IV, I came to the realization that the spacing between the front and center axle and the spacing between the center and rear axle are different. I took a quick measure and found that my Max IV w/ 22" rawhides has approximately 6 inches between the front and center tires, and approximately 8 inches between the center and rear tires. I measured about half way up the tires where they were closest to each other. So does anybody know why the Max IV has different axle spacing in front and rear ??? I naively assumed that they would be the same. How about Max II's and Argo vehicles ?? Are they asymetric as well ? Richard, do you have any thoughts on this question w/ all your 6X6 experience.

I sure wish someone would offer to reply. I presently have a project under way, and about ready to start the chassis. I had intended to set the axels on 30 inch spacing with a 49 inch track. That is wheel flange to wheel flange.After your question I noticed that some 6x6 have the long spaceing between axel 1 and 2 as well. My thoughts are that this asists the balance F to R for flotation . IE. Wheel volume. As I will have a 1000cc 3 cyl Suzuki auto engine with automatic transaxel centered over the rear axel this spacing may be paramount in importance.
