Thinking about a Max 4 with snow tracks. New to ATVs. Curious to find out if anyone out there has a trackmax, and what their experience has been. I'm a bit concerned about the clearance, since I will be driving in snow to a cabin, and sometimes we get deep wet stuff. Any other advice welcome!!

Phil, I have been using Max IIs & IVs with the new track for three plus years now - The depth of the snow is never a concern. You will not have any trouble in deep wet snow. In deep dry snow, the machines go fine if you keep off the throttle up to about 30 degrees. In the dry stuff (we call it cold smoke) you will sink in enough to leave a belly pan mark and push a little snow with the front of the machine and using too much throttle will spin you stuck when climbing until you learn how to drive it.

In wet snow, the Max will only sink in an inch or so (very good flotation and very uniform PSI on the ground). Stop and go in most any snow conditions is no problem (might need to back up a few feet in the soft fluffy stuff or if climbing). Icy conditions are the hardest for the Max with tracks because they have no cleat and if the suction cups of the track won't hold, they don't have much bite. I personally have not tried a spike or cleat retrofit.

You need 18 Hp as a minimum (gives you 10 to 15 actual MPH in most situations) and should buy a machine that was manufactured for the new track. Putting tracks on a machine that has not been set up by the factory for tracks is a rather expensive and time consuming endeavor, but it cane be done.

A trackMax is a Max IV with no chains or sprockets on the middle or front axles.

Fred, thanks for the response and advice. But it begs another question or two. If I go with the trackmax, and it is 2 wheel drive only, does that mean the vehicle is really only for tracks only, and would not convert easily to 6x6 without tracks?

Also, what is the approximate delivery time for a Max? I think we might bite this winter.

Phil, Yes, the Trackmax is for use with tracks only. I personally think the Max IV with tracks, as an accessory, is a better way to go and that both 21" and 26" tires should be purchased.

Current delivery time is about a month - three or so weeks with the factory and about a week in transit.

If you are thinking used and can get a trackmax, sprockets and chains can be added to make it a regular Max IV.

Can anyone tell me what is under the bed on a Max Buffalo truck. The reason I ask is I may purchase one used and would like to add second row of seats to it if possible. Bob
