How about 100+; or more than we can fit into our machines. The T20 has bigger planetaries and bushings than a turbo 400 which can handle more than 700 HP. The bands can't take that much abuse and there is no oil pump to protect the bushings but be that as it may they are a very very brutal tranny. In short: put as big as engine you can fit into your machine, the T20 will be able to handle it no prob.

Boy - I had no idea. I got this T20 from eBay to replace the anemic drivetrain in a scrambler hulk that followed me home one day.
I had originally planned on a 4-cyl military engine for it at about 20HP, but now I wonder about maybe a honda 750 or similar. Cool!

Mark: Thats very funny because I was going to put a motorcycle engine in my Argo 8X8 before I rebuilt my 16 horse. When I look back I wish I would have went with the motorcycle engine!!! The only problem I could see with doing this is putting a converter type clutch on it. But they do make air shifters and you could use a hand type clutch on your turning stick. Then you could shift up or down just like a motorcycle!!! I like your 750 idea!!!! Even Brandon could not catch you!!! I really hope you will consider this before you spend your $$$ on a wimpy little 16 or 20 horse like I did. There are alot of advantages to a motorcycle engine!!! I hope you give it a try!!! Let me know what you decide.

That is the hurdle - how to control 2 sticks for steering, 1 throttle, shifting gears and controlling a clutch!
Let's see - clutch on left stick, throttle on the right, or on a right foot pedal, and left foot a rocker pedal for gears - I would need the coordination of a pipe organist! I wonder about the safety factor of such an arrangment. Would a shift lever work better than the foot shifter? I would have liked to keep controls off of the sticks, but it looks like I won't have a choice. I also wanted to keep the steering wheel arrangement, but I don't know if a T-20 lends itself to that.
I've got a Yamaha 650 twin - I would imagine that is enough and a better shape for a scramber.

Mark: They make an air shifter that you do not need to activate the clutch to shift. You just push the button and your into the next gear. They work very smooth and are very nice indeed. If I remember right they are about $125 for the setup. You'll be able to pick one up at any motorcycle shop that is into drag bikes. If you had enought space and could keep the stock clutch that would be the way to go, because you could keep it in any gear unless you really wanted to go fast or very slow. I'm telling you that 650 would be an excellent choice!!! I wish I would have gone that route when I rebuilt my Argo. This whole arangement is not going to be cheap or easy to pull off but if you could do it you would have one awesome machine that no one could touch!!!!! Again, I hope you give it a try!!!!

has anyone thought about using a hondamatic engine with the automatic transmission, but first I would find out how much horsepower is really there
