I was talking to one of the guys from RI at Humphrey. He said that when everything is properly adjusted, that there should be about 5" between the tips of the sticks when one is fully forward and one fully back. Mine has more than 11" so I guess it's a little out of adjustment. The only adjustment to bring them together is the bolts in the plungers as I see it. Then adjust the position of the pair with the adjustments in front. This is a Max IV. This sound correct?

Tim,
I have a 94 max4. The lateral (sticks) travel can be adjusted by adjusting the turnbuckle collars on the rods that go under the floor and back to the transmission. You can not take up the lateral travel with the plunger adjustments on the transmission. These are for band engagement.
The adjustments you are looking for should be right in the area of the battery

Mine is a 96 but there is no adjustment near the battery other than the tranny plungers. The turnbuckle on mine is at the front where it connects to the sticks. This adjustment will not however decrease stick travel ,but merely the position of the sticks. I adjusted the plungers and everything is now fine. Thanks anyway
Tim
